Re: question on turbo size

I wouldnt mind hearing some opinions on which turbo would be best for the 1/4 mile asphalt race, if you used the 2560r and the boost comes in fast, would this be a hinder to good 60ft times and also the amount of heat it would absorb in 1320ft?
VS- going with a larger 2860 , would lag help somewhat with the 60ft as it would be easier to hook up and then let the boost come in later, we are talking about running 20-22lbs of boost in this application. Running full msd ign with timing retard.

what ya guys think?

The 2860 would be better suited for that boost level and that distance.
And your right on with Asphault racing traction is not as good as ICE so the little bit of lag can help traction in this case.

GET A LANE!! :die

I don't have the need or desire to get technical like alot of guys do. Some get on here and try to impress with a bunch of technical papers, I'm not one of those people
I do a lot of that...guess that puts me in the "some" group. I like the technical aspect of our sport and I like the fact the math & physics can be applied to every aspect of our sport. I enjoy helping people find technical answers to their technical questions. I do not do it to "impress". I do it for the satisfaction of knowing I might have helped someone. My world is boondocking and technical hill climbing in the mountains. The mountain riders I know, and respect, are the only ones I want to "impress". The only way to do that is by demonstrating your skills as a technical rider and demonstrating your sleds on-the-snow performance. I'm always in the game, in my class, on an overweight underpowered Yamaha.

I am not taking sides here, but as I have posted befor there is a difference between riding in the east and out west in elevation. so I thank both side here have a point. at low elevation drag racing I am sure the 2560 works well, but as many of us out west have found at 10,000 ft. on a long pull in deep powder it doesn,t work very will, it is a poor choice for this kind of riding, most of them will not last a full season if rode hard, on the other hand I am sure they run for ever at lower elevation trail riding and drag racing, different riding conditions different equipment, I can tell you my first turbo came with a 2554 and it didn,t last half a season went to a 2560 and still had to upgrade to a 2871, and I believe this is what powder lites has found out as well.

What I think it is,Is that people in this sport are seeing things change at a fast pace and they can see that its going to be hard to stay on to for long .

You cant be on top forever!!!

Dont Hate the Player Hate the Game!

You guys put what turbo you want on your sled ,But when you build to much HEAT in that Motor and It Goes POP! Then go back to the Turbo experts and see if they will FIX your Motor For FREE????

Hell NAPP is a CHAMP he Can Fix it For you :o|

In the short time we have before this post gets pulled...

1320 - If you spend some time around here you'll learn that this forum is unlike some of the others you might frequent. Posts like the the one you made above have no place here. I'll assume that you haven't read the forum rules or you would know this.

It sounds like you have a lot of knowledge that could be helpful to others on the forum if you chose to participate in a constructive way. I so far see no evidence that this is your intention. Why don't you consider it?

There are lots of talented guys here that are willing to help fellow sledders out. Just because I know something about engines or turbos doesn't mean that no one else can, and there are constructive debates all over this site. Key word being 'constructive'.

Posting here isn't a contest to see who knows the most, that is what race tracks are for.

It is fair, but it isn't what this forum is for. Mike has been around here for quite a while and contributes to the forum. You, not so much yet, although it would be great if you would.

If you want to get your tape measure out, do it with PM's...

No place for this on TY

Let me say this, there is NO one Turbo that works for everyone, but for the person who started this thread it is the perfect match.

I talk to each person, I ask alot of questions as to how they ride what they're goals are, what power level they want to acheive, what kind of gas they want to run, if the motor is modified or not, What Elevation they ride at, and a host of other detailed questions to come to a conclusion.

I don't think it is fair for anyone to question my suggestion without all of the details discussed between me and the customer.

If you have all that information specific to that customer, and you don't agree with my suggestion, I am happy to debate it in a civilized Professional manner.

Turbo 1320, You come on here BLA BLA BLA, I AM THE MAN, YOU GUYS DON'T KNOW NOTHING and expect people to listen???????

You have already lost everyones respect.

You obviously pushed few buttons, and some stuff was said that was aimed directly at you but others feel they may have been included but trust me they were not.

Hammer Keep up the great Technical info, I am sure this was not aimed at you.

Well said.

This is exactly what my own experience with Ted was. I called him a few weeks back to pick his brain on a new build I'm doing. He spent 20 minutes on the phone with me discussing options even though the background sounds made it obvious he was having a busy day.

Thanks again, your service is excellent.

And a note to Hammer - I don't think others will mind me speaking for them when I say you provide a valuable service to the forum. Keep it up!!

WOW!!!

So...

1 guy has a real fast bike....and builds REAL fast bikes

3 guys have real fast sleds...and build REAL fast sleds

This is a sled forum...hmmm

Now...if bike guy wants to bring his bike out on the ice....ahh nevermind...
