the proper break-in technique

Run it easy for 100-150 miles then don't be afraid to open her up and open her up hard. Try to get a large fluctuation in use. Just don't run for extended lake runs till 600 +

From NASCAR, to drag racing, how do the racers break in their engines? Does Jeff Gordan drive #24 for for 10,000 miles at low speeds before a 500 mile race?
No comparison here buddy. NASCAR engines will see 500 miles max, hopefully our sled engines will see thousands of miles.

....... uhhhhhh, actually yes. Nascar, Indy, F1 engines are all broken in buy their builders on engine dynos. I don't know why you would say 10,000 miles though.

Im going to break my RX-1 in on the hard side. But no extended w.o.t. runs until about 300 miles...

I say break it in the same style as you would ride it once it is broke in. The manual as far as I'm concerened is BS; my mountain sled would only do 23 mph on a flat at 6000 rpm. Needless to say the only times my engine saw that rpm or lower was during idling for warming up and during the breif periods it registered while accelerating and decelerating. While breaking in my sled I did brief (5-10 sec bursts ) WFO. and then cruised at about 7300 RPM. I should also state my engine was broke in with 4 oz. of ER in the tank of fuel and 2oz./qt. of oil in the crank case.

Break In

If you want a good seal in the engine you'll break it in hard as stated in the moto tune way. It will make more power! Don't use synthetic oil for the first 1500-2000 miles or so. Moto man or what ever his name is knows what he's talking about. Do it as he says and you won't be sorry. Mike Knapp#17
