Thinking about an '08 Yamaha - durability?

Great sled with a great motor. Friend had a 88 Yamaha FZR 1000. Same motor as the apex and he had 70 000 miles on it when he sold it and never had the motor open. I have a 03 R1 and race it. 4 years of racing and she still has the power and still doesn't burn oil. 4 strokes are here to stay and if anybody says other wise then they haven't ridden a yami 4 stroke. Last weekend I left at 9:00 am and came back at 7:00 with 380 miles on the sled. Got up the next day and did another 80 miles with the wife. Never ever could I do that on my Doo. Best long haul sled I think you will ever come across. Ya there are other 4 stroke's out there but none with the power and finesse of the yamaha. Go make your purchase and then come back on here and tell us we were all right on the money. I know I did.

Yep and you can do those long mile days day after day and never open the hood.

Well, I've pretty much narrowed my search down to either a Yamaha 150 (Apex) or a Yamaha 130 (Vector 2008?). It is great that there is more discussion here about ski selection than anything else. I can deal with skis, but have little tolerance for poorly calibrated 2 strokes nowadays. Can't wait to try out the monoshock rear! I think it would fit my style more than the torsion-sprung RTX style rear end.

:rocks: Just can't get excited about buying anything else than the Yamaha - guess I will be another convert! Or should I say revert? Looking forward to making my first real post about my '08 or even a left-over '07 Apex. Not going to buy until the fall, I think....

I checked that out last week. I don't know why the only demo in Michigan is located in Brimly - that is about 400 miles away from SE Michigan. Seems like there would be enough snow around Gaylord or Cadillac for a demo ride this winter.

Not sure if you are located in America or not, but click here for the Yamaha demo schedule and a chance to ride one of the models you might like to purchase. ;)!

You might want to consider snow checking an 08 sled in the spring. Usually have some pretty good deals.

4300 miles on my apex..

3 sets of hyfax..

2 Belts..

2 rear shocks (both warrantied by dealer)

2 boggy wheels (also warrantied by the dealer)

THATS IT.....

I gotta say i love this sled and plan on keeping it another 3 years..

New sleds

I had a 05 800 Renegade, loved the rider foward seat. 06 1000 Renegade, felt like The Titanics anchor was stuffed under the hood and ended up with an 06 800 Xpackage ski doo last year. Sold the 06 X and purchased an 06 left over Attak last spring. I had 1300 miles on the Yamaha Attak, motor is awesome, front end has Fox floats which are nice also. My only complaint of the Attak was the rear shock (mono) pogosticking when hitting bigger whoops 1 - 2 foot tall. I already had the big boy spring. Was told to have rear shock revalved. Goodwin performance did revalve and last week I got 1100 miles on up in Ontario and a short day ride in Bergland area on the way home from Canada. I will also say that my back is not the best and gives me problems every so often.

That being said, my Yamaha Attak is the best riding sled I've ever had or ridden PERIOD. I was told that the mono would ride great once dialed in and I would agree. No I won't be able to jump it like the 800 Renegade, but overall not even close. No I don't work for Yamaha. And my back feels good to boot.

08s i Believe will all have the pushbutton REVERSE....its still a chaincase mechanical ER but us activated by a solonoid...ala phazer.

once you go 4 stroke, you wont even think about 2 stroke days....I am a die hard 20+yr DOO guy,and Im a huge apex lover now..this motor LOVES to be held!

You will LOVE IT!

Coming from Cats myself, I think the biggest disadvantage you will notice is the flat cornering will not be there like the ZR's. Other than that, everything else is much better, especially the rider forward positioning and engine reliability.

If it's got tires, tits or tracks, it's gonna give you trouble! Bottom line is the Yammies are the most relaible, highest quality sleds out there but they're not perfect. They are better than the competion & you'll enjoy a Yam 4-stroke very much. Don't listen to the weight hub-bub. The sleds are so well balanced, the weight isn't a factor.

Has anyone here tried out an IQ 600 or 700 CFI Polaris? If so, how does it compare to the Apex as far as ride quality / hangling / ergos are concerned? I don't need to be the fastest guy across the lake, but I enjoy swift acceleration and about 100mph is all I will ever see on the trails.

I wish I could ride these damn things before I purchased one. Like I said, the Yamaha ride is 400 miles north of the greater Metro area of Michigan, where 2/3 of the population resides. Not sure about Polaris rides...
