OK, I read it on here somewhere last year but cant find it now. I am wanting to drop a smaller top gear in my chain case from stock on my 03 RX1. What do I switch to and will I need a new chain also or can I get by with my stock chain. What can I expect in performance by doing this.

The 03 came With 24-38 gearing.
It's a 70 link Chain.
You can go to 23-38 without changing the Chain.
At 22-38 you will have to change the Chain to a 68 link Chain.
The change in performence will be small.
You will get out of the hole faster depending on tracktion. I would go Down one tooth to 23-38 first. Sprockets are cheap, Chain is not.

I have a 2005 RX1 with jets K&N filters and snow socks. M10 suspension would I gain or lose top end if I change the top sprocket from24 to 26 tooth. I am running 10,100 rpm full throttle. Thanks in advance. jj

You will not have the Power the pull the 26/38 gearing. I run 25/38 at 350 HP and I'm able to run it out of gear, on a stocker you're not.
You will not gain top speed gearing up to 26.
I recommend gearing Down a tooth to 23, you will get better low end response and even gain a few at top end.

gearing

hey guys stock gearing is way to tall if it would fill clutches it would go 125mph.i have mine geared 22-39 and on radar its shows still iio mph the advantage by gearing down is much better midrange but remember when you gear down alot clutching is necessary/

With a 70 link chain you can go to a bigger bottom gear as well. The o4 mountain came with a 21/40 gearing with a 70 link chain. Making your bottom gear bigger is going to give you the same effect as going with a smaller top gear only its more efficient. You will lose top end speed but gain torque. You can go as high as I have with a 24/40 70 link combination.

Thats what I am after is the torque. My sled will do 110ish mph now and I rarely drive at those speeds, but I do love the powder riding and twisty trails. I love the feeling of the butterfies in my stomach when I hit the throttle. What kind of top end speed will I lose? 5, 10, 15 mph???

Want butterflies, a turbo system would do that LOL :-)
