closure

I would agree with Zook. I think I have a total of 12 dollars into my closure. (aluminum and rivots)

OK.... here it is.... aluminum $15, Rivets 1.99, 16.99 TOTAL.... do it yourself....

any sheet metal place will gladly cut you a piece of aluminum, and the rivets are anywhere....

Yamaha does now have a kit available for blocking off the hole in the tunnel on 07 and 08 model Phazers. The kit includes 11 total pieces with many of the pieces designed to help deal with the excess heat created around the exhaust silencer when the hole is blocked off and not allowing snow to cool the area around the silencer. The kit will retail for $85.33 in the US and the part number is 90891-50152-00. Give me a call if you need one. Thanks

85 seams exessive seeing how people have been blocking tunnels for 2 years now for under 20 bucks.if heat is an issue for you, i'd put some heat tape under the seat and rip off those damn tunnel covers. heat issue solved for an additional 5 bucks

Hey Port-Parts

Port - Parts can you post some pics of the complete kit , please include pics of the heat shields they say are coming with it , this might help a few make up there minds .

Should be a free update or there should be some kind of a reasonable offer to have it installed if you ask me, especially considering the 09's come with them already installed. So much for the excess exhaust heat causing a problem as they stated back in 07... #$%&*

Sorry I don't have any pics of the kit yet but I believe there is a metal plate that goes between the seat and the muffler and roughly 4 to 6 pieces of reflective tape to go on the plastics parts around the tail along with the panel closure and the rivets to hold it on. I believe all these parts are basically what has been used on the 09 models to accomplish closing the tunnel.

As far as whether or not all the heat shielding is needed or not my take is that Yamaha has always stated that in certain conditions they had seen heat related problems with parts melting when the tunnels were closed during testing of units. Usually this would happen after running wide open for long periods of time. On four-stroke sleds the exhaust pipes can really retain alot of heat when ridden wide open for a long period of time. When engineering the 09 models with the closed tunnel Yamaha created the extra heat shielding that is standard on the 09's and included it in the kit for 07 and 08s to prevent any problems. Have people previously closed their tunnels and had no problems - sure - but if one out of ten has a problem that is not acceptable by Yamaha's standards and Yamaha is testing for the life of the snowmobile not just over a shorter 500 miles since closing it off type test.
