>>I know this might be blasphemy but has anyone tried to put the stock exhaust under the tunnel after straightening the header and mid-pipe?<<
Anyone?? I too would like to keep the stock exhaust either by bending the stock header or using a header from a Vector. Haven't seen on done yet on TY and don't know if there is enough room.

I've been debating trying this. I"m stretching my 121 to 144 and I'm going to see if it is possible when I get that done...

I am in the process of stretching mine from 121 to 136 and have it all torn down; just don't see how there is enough room to make it work. The tunnel protectors would have to be removed (exhaust is wider than the spacing between the protectors); but don't think there is enough height clearance. the only way I could see it work is that part of the muffler would need to above the tunnel and then a block off would need to be stepped to accommodate the portion above the tunnel. The outlet would still be below the tunnel, but, the gained storage space would be smaller.

I was wondering if you made the mid pipe longer moving the muffler back if you could gain some height towards the back where the track slopes down to meet the back wheels.
Of course I have not torn mine down yet to size anything up so I'm just making pure guesses. I already have tunnel protectors (ice collectors) removed so I'm not worried about those.

Don't let the track slope fool you when the sled is just sitting there! If you compress the suspension in the rear you have very little room to work with the further you go back. It is 3 - 3.5 inches if I remember right.

Yeah that's what I figured. would be nice if the stock muffler wasn't so deep. They should have made it wider and shallower.

Don't give up yet. There are several things you can find out there for a small muffler if you don't mind the sound change.

The point of the stock muffler is to keep it quiet; don't need to give Mr. DNR any reason to stop me.

Hey Ralger,
I think a reasonable guy like you could talk your way out of that ticket.
How are the summer/fall mods coming along?

The list of mods keeps getting longer....working on the exhaust doughnuts today - they are toast. Just getting ready to start putting everything back together.
Do you bend sheet metal? I have a rack I need to make for the saddlebags - they wore a hole through the set cover on the rear end of the seat.

Hey Ralger,
Can't help you out on the sheet metal bending. No press brake yet. Sorry.

Just my opinion, but I would make the midpipe shorter than longer. I have never had any pack up problems with my undertunnel exhaust despite what I have heard from others. My mid pipe extends only 5 or 6 inches into the tunnel so the exhaust is less than 8 inches from the front of the tunnel.
My theory is that the pack up problems manifest worst at the rear of the sled that has trenched. The middle of the sled or front is still on the top of the snow less prone to packing and blocking the exhaust outlet. I only have empiric experience with my under tunnel exhaust.
Just another tid bit is that with a turbo even an open bike exhaust is quieter than stock. I have the Yoshi RS-5 with the quiet insert and it's almost scary how quiet it is.

Last season we cut the stock muffler on the phazer apart and changed the exit from the back to the bottom ... seems to work fine (no more ice than the same phazer with the stock exhaust
.... just stretched the Nitro to 144 and have the muffler cut apart to block off the back pipe and change it to dump under the tunnel ... still stock ... still quiet ... more usable space on the tunnel.
