under tunnel exhaust

Wanting to mount a can and bag on the tunnel ext. I was looking at turnouts and under tunnel exhaust to keep heat away from them. So I was thinking. the muffler has three chambers and the exhaust goes out the sides and out the rear. Why couldn't I just cap them off and cut two holes in the bottom of the muffler weld pipes to it and run it out the tunnel?

Wanted to get some thoughts on this.

The exhaust baffles that silence it are attached to the side exits. If you don't use them it would be like running a gutted exhaust.
