I started playing around with my RB3 today and I can't get the USB connection to operate. I tried a bunch of different USB ports and I reloaded the software. I can download maps from the internet and look at them but I can't do anything at all with the box itself. I just keep getting a USB connection error. I don't have the RB3 installed on the sled but it is my understanding that you can load maps without having the unit on the sled. I just thought I'd start trying to learn the ins and outs of this thing before I install it but so far no luck. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to know/fix?

i believe you do need it connected to the sled. It gets some power from the battery

Pins 1 and 4 Red/Black provide +5v dc which I was led to believe was used for powering the RB3 or any other USB based device for that matter. Pins 2 and 3 are for data. My download cable is providing exactly 5 volts so?????????

Mine will only work in one usb port on my laptop I not sure why but I suspect the program or drive names a port. Thats where you need to look.

Well I tried all my USB ports and lo and behold one of them worked, so for sure you don't need the box on the sled. Now I just need to improve my Englitalian. Manual could use some work. LOL
