I'm in the market for a used Apex, I have about 5k to spend and am looking for some help. I'm coming from a mxz 800 (zx chassis) and love the handling of the sled, just hate the unreliability. My brother has an 06 apex er that I have put a few hundred miles on, so I'm familiar with the sled.
I'm 6'3" 250# and ride pretty aggressively mostly on trail.
I've been looking at an 07 rtx that I really like, but I'm having second thoughts based on the skid and track ratcheting problems that I have heard of.
Should I stay away from the rtx and go to a gt or er? Or maybe an 06 rtx? I don't want to put much in the sled past the purchase price. I would plan on a 13mm sway bar and maybe a shock revalve, but I don't want to get into a new track and extroverts.
I'm also looking at an 09 rtx - were there any improvements that year?
Let me know what you think and thanks for the help.

I just purchased a very low mileage 07 GT and it is an excellent machine. just thought I would let you know that it is a little disturbing how easily it DOES bottom. You are a little heavier then me but I also can ride pretty aggressive.
I will be getting it revalved sometime and I know from my motocross days that this alone will make it a different machine.
Good luck!

I just picked up an 06 RTX myself. I like the monoskid, I have the same one in my Viper and I like how easy it is to adjust (I'm maybe 180 with gear and the stock spring is more than enough for me). No track ratcheting so far even with a relatively loose track. As far as modifications, I'll save them for the off-season (12mm sway bar, shock revalve, maybe a new track). I plan to replace the front end bushings and exhaust donuts and I would recommend doing so on any used Apex; that way you know they'll be good for a long long time.

Maybe I can help. I had a 06 rtx and it was to soft for me. I put a fat boy spring in with a revalve and that sure helped. I sold that and bought a 08 apex ltx 40th anniversary. It has ohlins shocks on it. after a revalve it works like it should. 13mm bar in the front is a must. Might be shopping in the 5000.00 plus for something like that but it would be worth it.

I just bought a apex rtx which has a 121" track with 8500 miles on for 3500. I love it and is fast as #*$&@! But if i had to do it all over again i would look for a attak.

I'm not sold on a 136", my dad has a warrior and it just doesn't corner like the 121's. Is the 07' RTX skid really a problem? The one i'm looking at is mint with just under 3k on it, love the sled - just don't want somebody else's problem.
Should I be giving an 06' more thought? I figured that yammy made a change for a reason...

I have a 2007 RTX.
At 6500 kms, i have done the donuts, y pipes, oil and grease jobs, and di-electric greased the grounding blocks.
Awesome sled...it has the non mono skid and it does not bottom.
It took me a year to dial in the suspension..50 psi front shocks..center shock to minimum pressure c/w only 3 clicks, rear shock to setting 1, and most importantly , 6 inch woodies dualies.
Use the engine braking to bring additional bite to the skis when hard cornering, and blast back hard out of the cornrs.
Love it.

You cant go wrong with Apex 121 136 or 144.
98% of the machine is the same, you make it work for YOU remember.
I have ridden many (Apexs) and there all different per owner._ in my group _once set-up for you- and -you can always adjust too.
If you were to ride my machine, all it would take is a few minutes to adjust 5min (im smaller at 6'0 175wh gear.)and you would love this skid.(not stock)
Whatever you get make sure its set-up for you is what im saying. front and back and you will love it!
And yes the word is you lol !

Ratman- do you have any issues with ratcheting? I think that's what scares me the most. I have heard that you just have to run them really tight - how is hyfax life?

Yes there are a few changes, The radiator bracket was updated, the drive shaft is thicker and the rear torsion springs are stiffer and it also has a rear heat exchanger. The RTX also has a taller and firmer seat than the standard Apex, something I considered as I am 6'3" as well. The updated springs were way too stiff for me (I am 230 with gear on), I replaced them with springs from an 07. Re-valved to a multi stack valving in both the rear shocks and changed the skis to Pilots. Fox's are set around 60. You can see the rest of my add ons in my signature, but these are the basics to get this sled to really rock. I do not have any issues with ratcheting, my track is tensioned to spec as I run studs. Excell wheels solved the slider wear issues. I also added 2' to the bar riser for better ergos. Good luck in your hunt.

Post your location, and you may be surprised at who may have one in your area.
My '07 GT has been revalved by HyGear for me at 240lbs. I hardly ever bottom out even in rough conditions. I have no issues with ratcheting, but then again, the track tension is setup correctly.
I have put on the 2.5" Powermadd Pivot riser and it allows me at 6'2" to stand easily. You can't go wrong as the Apex should be in your price range if you are looking at an '07 or so.
