Viper Engine Noise?

I have almost the same vents on both.... still not the same, close with both off but the viper still seems louder.

Yeah they seem to vary a lot. One of my old Nytros was so loud I designed a small spring to put in in lieu of the side washers on the weights. Worked great for about 1k miles...lol...then back to rock crushers city....

Any body figure this out ? I just got a 15 Ltx and it's crazy rattly . Sounds like marbles in a tin can. Can't be normal . I only got 138 miles on it . Only had it 5 days ND the noise seems to be getting worse .

Sounds just like mine. It is normal. Mine has been doing that pretty much since day one last year. My '14 LTX SE now has almost 5,000 mi on it and it still makes the same noise. I believe its the primary clutch which as any long time 4 stroke Yamaha sled owner will tell your and very noisey. Pull your side panels off and visually check everything and make sure all your fluid levels are good and then ride it! Go on your trip next week and ride the piss out of it and enjoy it! There is nothing wrong with it.

I had an Apex for 7 years that didn't make any noise in the clutch so I'd have to say with certainty it's not a 4 stroke issue . I can believe maybe the nytro motor sounds different but the clutch should not sound like it's ready to grenade .

2015 Viper SR... loud chatter noise at 4500-5000 RPM at steady speed just like in the video posted here.
Only 40 miles on new machine! I hope this noise is not NORMAL as some have suggested in the replies.

My 2013 Nytro is super quiet compared to my new 2015 Viper?

*** Everything I have read after my original above post says that the loud chatter noise is caused by the spline, which many have unsuccessfully tried to fix with Loctite and other products.

There is no fix to resolved the loud annoying chatter/rattle that you hear form the motor when not on the accelerator. I own three other Yamaha sleds and the Viper was my 4th new sled. I would not recommend a Yamaha sled to anyone in the future!

Unbelievable that a new $10,000 machine with less than 50 miles on it... sounds like the motor is about to throw a valve or rod!

Does the 1050 have the splined crank / tapered shaft like the old carbed motor? Supposedly that is what generates the noise. Although Hartman says the P85 on a Vector quiets it down.

Could be. Not worried about it at all though. If mine got quiet I would stop my sled and look for what was binding! You know the Cats have quiet clutches and alot of problems. "Loose is Fast"

After adding the shims to the clutch pins that quieted down but the tin can marble sound is still there . Has to be a heat sheild im guessing . Along with my newly developed chain case leak ive got the not so in love feeling with this new Viper . Tech at Big Moose in Old Forge says his Yamaha rep blames the leak on faulty machining in the rear case and oil coming by the bolt. Thats some disapoin ting quality control from Yamaha right there .
