I got the snowmobile summertime blues so I'll share my thoughts. I ride a 2014 ltx se, the first season I did 2300 miles, only issue I had was center shock needed rebuilding after 1800, it blew a seal and leaked out all the oil. Other than that I just did some small things here and there to the sled itself to make it fit my liking. First thing I did was put a set of 6" deuce bars on the skis, in stock form mine darted terrible and I didn't feel safe riding it, deuce bars cured the darting 100%, steering left a bit to be desired, but that's the case with every model viper. Only real complaint other than that was the stock suspension setup was very stiff. I weigh 240ish and it rode like a brick to me, I'd have hated to be some of the small 160# guys and ride that rough bull. So after the first season I sent my rear shocks out to get revalved and that made all the difference in the world, this past season the sled rode absolutely beautiful all the time. Now with 3800 miles on mine the shocks do need to be serviced again, they are a cheap shock and in my opinion should be done atleast once a season for them to stay consistent. But those 2 simple things costing about $250 total turned my sled from a poor handling and rough riding snocross setup sled into a beautiful plush riding 200 miles in a day trail sled. I have done other things to mine along the way, but in my opinion the biggest beneficial changes you can make to the viper is properly setup rear shocks and better carbides or aftermarket skis.

I bought the LTX for the higher windshield and because I did not want float shocks. The first year was stiff but I think they have remedied that since then. I currently have 6000 miles on it.

I bought and now own 2 Xtx's but my riding buddy was on 14 ltx the first season and we swapped a lot. We were both turbo'd so hp was about 190 then. I loved the handling of the LTX much more than the XTX till I found a few trix. But like stud says they are or were valved harsh. It took me one season to get used to the diff between the Viper and my Polaris pro R 800's. Now I love them and even sold my 2015 Polaris Pr S 800 to buy another 15 XTX. With a bit of adjusting and maybe a revalve it is the best trail/off sled I have ever ridden.

I have a 2015 LTX SE and I absolutely love the sled. It's rips up to 80 and is very stable. It pushes with the stock skies in loose snow, but if you get some seat time you'll figure it out. I love the engine breaking..helps set the front end for turns. All in all it is the best sled I've ever owned. My big delimma is what turbo kit I want to install next year. Hurricane or MPI... The only reason MPI is even be considered is because of the factory authorized quiet muffler.

Just found out Hurricane now have a new quiet muffler that is at stock or below sound levels for their 190 turbo kit. My mind is totally made up now. I will be putting on their turbo kit on my Viper.

I love my LTX with the Hurricane turbo. I also found the ride to be too stiff, and don't like air shocks. I installed Hygear AXIS shocks on front and back. Great adjustability and totally changed the sled.

Love my LTX-LE. It was one of the early build 15's, so it's got the 1.25 Ripsaw2. All in all, I can hang with the XTX off trail unless it gets too steep. Just need to pick your battles. Ride was harsh, but revalve cured that. I'm 170# geared up and ride it with torsions on soft. Great trail manners. Tuners with shapers were good on hard pack, but push unpredictably in softer conditions. They are submarines in deep snow, and will be replaced this fall with Powderhounds. I debated LTX or XTX because of the coupled suspension, but after riding both in the choppy trails, I prefer the LTX.

As you read those posts remember we are a compulsive group and most of the complaints are corrected by the 2015 s , mine was perfect except the delayed install of the heated seat I wasn't even sure was standard on the STX DX I got. No cost to me.
I suspect the 2016 are even more fine tuned. Even my Polaris buddy said it was best sled he had ever ridden on the mixed trails we had that day. Lots of fine tuning of a great sled!

Not as wise as the others but here is my take. We own a 2015 Apex xtx, 2013 Nytro xtx, and now a 2015 Viper ltx se. Love the engine in my Nytro so that is why I bought the Viper. My Nytro is off trail needed something for long trips with my wife. I installed C&a skis with slim Jim duelies. Best steering cornering I have ever felt, no darting. Great ride, nice jumper very flat. Awesome pull. Top end sucks but clutching fixes that. Very happy. Two things I don't like. #1 Does not wheelie like my Nytro, which is better for trails. #2 Wind protection even with bigger windshield not great.
