I have reviewed many searches regarding this subject and have some ideas to start checking but I wanted to see if there are any new thoughts.
I have a 2003 RX-1 with 2500 miles. It started to idle very slow when warm on Saturday. I turned the idle up and all was well for the evening. The next morning it started fine and the idle was very high. I turned the idle down and it was fine for about 2 hours. When stopping the idle was getting lower and lower. Finally it would not idle at a stop. I turned the idle up and it made little difference until the idle was so high that the clutch would not disingage. It would idle at 4000 and then slowly slow down until about a minute latter it would not idle. By the end of the day it was running poorly through out the power range. Trailored home and restarted and the proble was still there. Next morning started and it was idling high. I seen that the sir box was loose on the carbs and re-tighned them. Also spryed some carb cleaner in the carbs. Re-started and it ran good but I was not able to ride it for more then a few minutes. I checked the plugs and they do have two grooves from the coils. Inside of coils seem to be very dirty and I cleaned one. Had to head to work but not before calling Yamaha. They stated that they are not aware of a coil problem in the 03 RX-1, go figure. If you have any additional ideas let me know. I will be working on this during the week and will let you know how it turns out.

Clean your carbs. (that means taking them apart, spraying crap in the throat wont do it.)
