I am looking at setting up a 2007 Apex for some speed on lakes but must be trailable. Right now the sled id bone stock and my buddy has the need for more speed. Couple things u should know reliablity is important and most riding done in Old forge NY. So give me some options for him, the good bads and what to expect when he is racing his friends big cc sleds. Super charger maybe?(whos and do the really take 20hrs to install) or just clutching and what other mods? nitros and clutching? exhaust any benefit? whos #*$&@ is really working. He realizes he wont be the fastest with the fast fast gutys but want to hold is own he is tired of getting beat by most. (like skidoo etec, big cats ect)

Ya, it takes about 20 hours. Best 20 hours ever spent. If he ran 7 pounds on pump gas there are not many stock sleds that would beat him. MPI has a deal going on till the end of the month.

I run a trail supercharger system and thee guys are right, not a lot will touch it, and its been turn key since installation. Put 91 in it and go like a mad man. I hit 152mph on the lake last year on the dreameter. They are missles with boost, be careful!

Not sure he wants to spend money on supercharger, what are other cheaper options that run good and how much ball park?

If he has over $5000 to spend then supercharger and he'll smoke all DEPENDABLE sleds around. If he'll spend $2500 to $3000, then Yamacharger seems the way to go. If less than a $1000, he can make gains, but won't be "blowing" by any of the Big Guns. Now if he wants cheap power to just line up at lakes, NITROUS may be best. decisions...decisions...decisions... I think that sums it up...

Ok what are details of $1000 option, and what about nos whos sytem how reliable, and better yet what if i combined both of these, hes not a crazy fast trail guy but when he gets on a lake he want the the big squeeze but dont we all. Its all about having your cake and eating it to. But this might just be enough for him. He just desnt want to have egg on his face when on the lake so combining these or one or the other will probably enough. Told him he is never going to be top dog but may be able to keep him up with big cc stock sled or a liitle ahead so thats what we argreed on. Ok give me details

Oh ya how much for nos and what about clutching for it, when your on the nos vs the trail peak rpm wil be way off some somethings gotta suffer?

Depends how you set it up. I've got mine set up thru a hub off my PC3. Going this route, I was able to raise the rev limiter to 11,700. Clutched off the bottle at 10,600 and on the bottle she'll run up to 11,600-ish with a 75 shot.

Works like a charm. Best of both worlds with very little compromise.

The cost to set it all up this way from scratch is about $1800 when you include extra bottles, etc.

We run a 40 shot Nitrous system from http://www.straightlineperformance.com/ on my brothers Apex with a Ulmer clutch Kit and it will run with my Super charger at 8lbs for quite a distance and he still get 15 mpg trail riding and I get 8 to 10...

Worst part is running out of NOS.... best part is, you dont tell anyone and you can smoke most sled on the lake with a trail sled...

I have one of those kits for sale. Its only missing the button that mounts on the bars to fire the nitrous. It got ripped off when I wrecked my sled. I bought it off another member last year for $400. PM for details.
Nitrous is the cheapest way to go. Plus you get all the manners (reliability) of a stock machine.

Apex mods

Get the sled to hook up as good as it can first and go from there. The mono skids aren't great for this. Without traction you will waste your money on any other mods. It will just spin the track faster and go no where. Even a clutch kit needs good traction to be any advantage over stock.
We have two Apexs with super chargers and both are difficult to put the power to the snow. Putting one on a 121" Apex is a waste of time for drag racing on snow with a mono skid because of traction. Been there, done that. A super charger takes a lot of time to install. Maybe 20 hours if you have done one before, lots longer first time around reading instructions. You will need a boost guage, a fuel commaders of some type, a waste blow off valve and an AFR guage. Also have to TIG weld a fitting in the exhaust pipe for the AFR guage fitting. Running a super charger blind without knowing what's going on with the engine is asking for trouble.
If it were me, I would look for a 144" XTX skid to put in the sled: They weight transfer and hook up very well. We have had the best traction luck with Woody's Mega-Bite studs. We have three XTX sleds and will be changing the 4th one (an Attack with a super charger) to this skid.
Gear it down one or two teeth on top. It will loose a little top end speed but, will be very quick getting there. Any way, make use of the power you have first.
Good luck.
