What about having the shaft welded and turned down at a machine shop for a tighter fit on the bearing?

What about having the shaft welded and turned down at a machine shop for a tighter fit on the bearing?
This is obviously more work but has also been done with great success.

I was just having a little fun with my comment since it has been repeated a few times on this thread.This is obviously more work but has also been done with great success.

I thought about this last night also removed axel yesterday thought about welding and having shaft turned down for a tighter fit but impossible to assemble. But why not drill a hole where bearing sits and tap for a set screw and thread it up thru the hollow drive axel. Read the threads again this morning and I believe that’s what you did if I’m am reading it correct KnappAttack ?Yep, you won't find one, been there done that.
I opted to install a 1/16" thick o-ring between the inside snap ring, a set screw thru the shaft and some green 638 loctite to hold the SOB from spinning with a new shaft and new bearing with a .001 slip fit on it. Last I checked the set screw it was still tight, but I'll re-grease all the bearings again this fall and will have it apart at that time. I'll report my findings. I've put 1690 miles on it since, and the new shaft and bearing went in at 2300 miles.

That is correct.
I will be ripping it all apart this coming fall and can see how it fared at that point. The set screw is still tight so fingers crossed it held.
