What made you buy a yamaha snowmobile over the others?

I just got my first yamaha sled this fall, an 03 rx1 with 11,475miles. I bought it from a buddy of mine that let me drive it last year. It was that drive that hooked me, power wise that is. I absolutly love the feel of the butterflies in my stomach everytime I hit the throttle. I checked around and asked questions about the milage on it. Everyone said not to worry about the engine, but check out everything else. I can fix everything else so I wasn't concerned.
I have a 1985 YFM 200 quad that must have countless hard mile on it (no speedo). I know what I have put it through, not sure about the owners before me, but it starts with ease everytime and still is running strong for my kid. The engines in the yamahas to me seem bullet proof, at least with my experiences anyway. I love my rx1 so much that I just bought a banged up 06 attack for the wife. It will be back on the snow shortly. With the knowledge and eagerness to help, of the people on this site when problems arise with my sled, that stands for something to.

Because I wanted my bike in a sled..... I knew what the bike could do on the black so I wanted to have the same fun on the white.

My Vector is my first ever Yamaha snowmobile and the reason I bought it was for reliability/dependability.

I was due for an upgrade from my ole XLT and I wanted a Dragon bad, but due to countless engine failures(reported) I reluctantly walked away.

I owned a 05 Grizzle S.E. and it was a great quad, never let me down and did everything very well, so with that in mind and me wanting something similar in a sled I chose my Vector.

So far so good and my gas mileage is incredible!!
My XLT was awesome on gas, I was always the last to need a refill but this Vector is even better than that.

I rode this past Friday and my BIL rode my XLT, we filled at the same time to just under the neck of the fill hole, we rode about 75-85 miles and when we got gas again the XLT took $30.45 to fill and my Vector took $18.50 ;)! (Gas was $1.12 a litre)
Unbelievable imo and this incredible gas mileage is just a bonus on top of everything else I am happy with.

My wife and two daughter have been riding Yamahas for several years together know. It doesn't matter who is riding up front you don't Smell that Smell. The one that you could Smell even after you went inside because it was all through your hair and cloths.
That and dependability.

that is so true,we all have 4 stokes in our group of riders,a few cats with us also, you really benefit from not smelling like chainsaw when coming in a motel or lodge for an overnight stay or just stinking your own home,we have a cpl 2s but they agree to stay behind so we dont have to smell them all day long, sometimes i'll be riding on logging roads in the bush and i know when i'm pulling up to a 2s sled

Interesting posts... The first sled I ever bought , blew up 2 weeks after I bought it ( December 2010 ) .. 2002 viper .. Loved it for the 2 weeks tho.. fast as sh!t..

RIP
300 miles

I cant even think of a new sled that even smells like that anymore.. Doo and polaris sure dont.. Cats probably stink tho..

My 97 sx700 isnt even that bad for a 2smoke

If its a 2s, is still stinks.

I could care less about 2 stoke smell. If you don't like it, don't ride with my friends and I off trail. Lots of 2 strokes in that group, including myself.

Find me a good 2009 o 2010 Apex Mtx and then I'll switch to 4 stroke off trail sled from my Mt Viper.

Are you young? Im 31.. I grew up ( like anyone older than me ) with that smell... I dont mind it at all.. Back in the 80s-90s noone complained as much as ppl do now...

New technology spoils ppl and turns them into whiney bishes

The guy asked why we would buy a yammy over the other sleds. He asked us for our opinion on them. I usually can smell other makes on the trail before I catch them.
What part of that don't you understand Camatoast. Its not whining its a fact.

i'm 38,i grew up in stinky 2s,loved it but always hated my clothes smelling like oil, didnt mind the actual smell of a 2s running, thought it smelled good, just not on me,i dont miss it 1 bit,and those new poo's and doo's smell when you meet them on the trail but maybe a little less, still lots of room for improvement on that part

The idea of burning lubricant in an engine on purpose is just flawed (IMHO). If only 2 strokes (& carburetors) had been available in '08, then I would not have bought a sled at all.

A sled with a proven 4-stroke fuel injected engine -- that is why I bought a Yamaha. Fixing bad suspension is easy compared to fixing a flawed engine design.

I actually went to buy a MXZ-583 in 1996 but the sled was gone. I ended up with an XT-600. I rode it for one year and bought a 97 700 SX. Last week my son and I pulled the motor on that sled because the lower steering bearing was so sloppy from wear the sled darted real bad. Pretty good when a motor outlasts a plastic bearing. By the way that sled is 70 miles short of 9000 miles and it still runs real good (and straight now). Reliability is why I buy Yammi's.
