If you had $8k in total (sled and mods equal to or less then 8K) to play with what would be the sled you would build to meet these qualifications:
1st across a lake every time
Trailable for 300-400 miles in a day, 2000 miles a year with no wrenching
Capable on whooped out rough trail
Little/no off trail capability
MPG around 14 or higher
Stand out in a crowded parking lot in a good way
Curious what sled you would use as a base and what mods everyone would make.
Lets have fun while we wait for snow!

You know, you could just about meet all those criteria at the same time with any 4-cyl yam up to 2007. The older you start with, the more of the budget goes into the suspension, the newer it is, the higher the price of the sled. The budget you specify pretty much precludes the possibility of TC/SC, but you could do a nitrous, and the nitrous kit itself would make you stand out in a crowded parking lot. If you go with an 08 RTX or Nytro, you'll probably break the budget a little unless you got yourself a real good deal.
To make the most of the $$, I would be inclined to go older with suspension upgrades... you could do nitrous, an expertx or zx2, floats, and a good track on an 03 and still have some $$ left over for bling, maybe a lexan hood? And no need to sacrifice off-trail ability.

In any case, what you've already got is pretty close to all you can do with the budget you've specified. You can build another one if you like

Or if you want to put $8000 in upgrades to what you've got... then you can make a lot of people really afraid...

I like wrenching
I voted rather have a sled that stands out but i also want it to be the fastest on the lake and take big bumps without stuffing my spine into my head.

Now I wonder Who Might Have Done That

Your question was set up in a manner that it sounded like you were wanting a Poll, so I set it up for you...Just like that....ABRA KADABRA
