Well I took the chaincase apart and the reverse gear bolt is broken. I called all the yamaha dealers within a 2 hour distance and no one carries the bolt. I have checked every hardware/bolt store and they all dont carry the 10mmx1.25" fine thread bolt. So I'm just debating putting the damn thing back together without the bolt since I have read that's what others have done. Has anyone had any problems running without the bolt? I have removed the broken bolt completely, the people running without the bolt did you leave the broken piece threaded in still or does it not matter? I just need to get this sled some were supposed to be getting some snow in 2 days!!
You can run it without the bolt, no worries.
You can leave the rest of the bolt inside the axle.
Dimebag here on the forum has thousands of kilometers (at least 6000km) with a broken bolt.
(he has the 180mcx kit also)
For some reason it seems to work just fine.
Just check the inside of your chaincase cover for wear from the rattling bolt-head, probably just a few scratches and thats it, no worries.
The chaincover will be alittle more difficult to put on but I you will get it on.
Merry christmas

Its a bitch to put back together like kimo has said, but I'm riding with out it. No problems.
The threads of my bolt are also still in there.
It is just there to ease assembly.

3000 Miles without, no problems, hold the fork at just the right angle and it drops into place.

There's an old thread on here with fixes. One is Yamaha has an upgraded bolt. I did another and had a spacer machined to rid the shaft of the lateral play that causes the breakage. $20.00 3 years, 3000km's later no prob's.
Check this link out and look for others with specs on spacer if you want to go that venue.. http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... +case+bolt

Well I got the chaincase put back together but I'm not sure if it's right. I got it on perfect the first time without the bolt and the lever worked perfect went in and out of reverse correct and easy, but when I go from reverse to forward and turn the secondary in the correct direction the chaincase makes a little noise like it's engaging into forward or the gears are popping apart? I wasn't sure if that was normal so I took it apart again and everything looked good then had about 4 failed attempts at getting it back together and I finally got it back right again but still have that ping noise when I rotate the secondary after going from reverse to forward. I have not added chaincase oil yet so maybe that could be it the gears kind of sticking?

Are you not fixing it immediately?yamaha06 said:Well I got the chaincase put back together but I'm not sure if it's right. I'm going to run without the reverse gear bolt, everything seems to work good with going into forward and reverse I just wasnt sure if that ping noise was always there when going from reverse to forward, I read in another thread where people said it's normal, I just wanted to be sure.

I pulled my chain case cover the begining of last season. My bolt was broken. ~3600 miles on the sled. I am not sure when the bolt initially broke. I removed the bolt head and put the cover back on. Rode ~1100 miles like that.
However I did put a new bolt in this year.

Better to run without the bolt, than to ride with a broken one tearing its way into the chaincase...

If the spacers are in the right place, chain is running straight, small o-ring is back in place and not too much tension on the chain you should be fine. You are "popping" it in and out of gear when going from forward to rev.

Ya I hear it popping from reverse to forward, but don't notice it with the sled running. The small o ring your talking about is the one at the top shaft where the disc break goes, sits in front of that collar with the hex screw?

I discovered a broken bolt at 8000 kms. The bolt head was rounded. I used an easy out to take out the threaded part and installed the new updated bolt. Who knows how long I was riding like that.
