Looking for a new sled next year and was wondering if I would be happy with the Vector vs an Apex. I am not into speed as much as I once was but still need that adrenaline hit of acceleration once in a while!!! How about handling? Does a 12 EPS Vector handle as good or better than a 11,12 EPS Apex???

If you are really not into speed, than yes, you will be extremely happy with the vector. The vector is as silky smooth as it gets powerwise. There are modifications that can be done to wake it up if you feel the need for more speed, but not on top end. Specifically, clutching! As far as handling is concerned, in my opinion, it will handle the same as the Apex. If you keep it stock, the front end will "hunt". What I did to fix the "hunting" was put 96 studs down the middle and installed woody's dually 4" carbides. This thing is on a rail. Planted, stable, and predictable. I was like you prior to buying my vector. Had to go faster than everyone else. I never rode a vector prior to mine. I was real skeptical buying it. But I did a lot of research on it and all was very positive, so I bought it. Best decision I have ever made. I'm 38 years old and like the occasional burst, and the vector will do that! I love it! The only way I will get rid of it is to get another!

Yep.
12.7 seconds VS 12.0 for 2012 Apex in the 1/4 mile. 91 mph vs 95. I'm guessing to 80 MPH not a lot of difference.[ Old Forge shootout #'s]
Lower centre of gravity than Apex so will handle better and 25 % better fuel mileage.
Plus Thousands less expensive.
Likely my next sled will be a Vector.

I have the Venture GT and I too hesitated because coming from an SRX, I didn't want to lose the extra power. But for most trials (everything but the long straight old roads) the Vector/Venture pull really nice. And as was mentioned, it's less expensive and gets better gas mileage. The other benefit to the vector is it's much much easier to change the oil than it is on the Apex.

I don't agree, it will handle better imo as the motor sits lower in the chasis and allows for more flat cornering.
I purchased my Vector based on what I read and was told, and for the most part, the Vector was the most underated trail sled out there.
I love mine and will highly consider getting another one if and when the time comes?

Thanks for the replies!! What about a long track vs the shortie? Is the Vector any lighter than the Apex?? My next step is to see what kind of a price I can get on a 12Vector vs the 11Apex red standard I have my eye on at my local dealer!!!

Bang on. The wifes new 2012 Vector LTX is hands down easier to ride then my 2008 Apex LTX, and way better on fuel
Definitely the LTX! I put about 85 miles on a new 2012 at the Ishpeming TY Demo ride and loved it. I felt it rode better than the Apex SE and the Apex XTX. Keep in ming I hover near 300lbs, and the sled was not set up for someone my weight. I can only imaging how much better it would have been dialed in for my size.
I have said for years they should never put a short track under the 4 cylinder engine. Way too much track spin. From my experiernce the FI 3 cylinder is in the same boat. I even thought the 128" SE was squirlly in the back. Keep in mind I have always been more of a longtrack person and I don't believe in studding.
I did ride the short track Vector as well, and by far my preference is the LTX. Much more stable in the rear and much smoother ride.

LTX all the way. Once you go to a 136" you wont want to go back to a 121". G.B.

one more vote for the LTX
It'll do all you want save the top end #'s; I am a bit like you 41 years old, and I like to see triple digits on the speedo, but I don't need to see 115

- 2016 RS Vector XTX 1.25 Lug wifes..2013 RS Vector LTX.. 2003 600 VMax Past Machines 3-2007 Attaks 1-2010 Vector LTX.. sorry no Stinkdoos or poo's cats.
I own a 07 Attak and I just rode the wifes 2010 FI Vector LTX today for 100 miles on flat trails. It flew..I'd like to trade in my Attak and get one with Power Steering for my old arms.

Our 2011 ltx will run 105 on the speedo and 101 gps. That is on packed snow trail conditions. The sled handles better than my Apex xtx.

I'll add my comments.
You can read my post on my first impressions with my 2012 Vector LTX. In a short summary, I love my sled. It hauls (my) butt and handles very well. I rode the bumps this past weekend in the UP and the 136" track just floated over them at 60 mph. My buddy's 144" Poo didn't do very well and complain about the rough trails. I've not seen the mileage that others are seeing, but I may be more actuate with the speed then some of the older sleds I'm told. I'm getting 15+ - 17+ mpg. You can ride all day and the EPS is nice. I did 265 miles in a day last week and I was ready for more. This is my first Yamaha and 4-stroke sled. I'm keeping this for a long time. By the way, I'm 58 years young.
