winder on it side

can i put a winder on it's side taking rear skid out i find it easy to do it that way on cat 2 strokes

Maybe someone here will give an accurate answer. I was told it had to do with the oil in engine. I was interested in buying the Sidekick stand to use in skid removal and they told me you should put a four stroke on it’s side

I have a handlebar stand that I use to support the sled while on its side.
Do it all the time, both sides too.

Googled it. Some guys say you can as long as thank oil tank stays on the downside so guess it ok. My bad

I just lift the back of mine up using an engine hoist for when I'm installing the skid... Have to pick it up about 4'. Removal is easy, just take the tension off the suspension and track

I'm with Scooter, super easy this way.

I prefer to use my sled lift for suspension work on 4s....

However, you can use a sled stand on its side, just dont go too far IMO. If you have the stock ROV in place you should be able to go further, but most of us have the ROV delete with hose mod, in this case you can judge how far over to lay sled and keep oil within the hose.

Agree skid removal on its side is faster.

The yamaha service manual says to put the sled on its side to remove and install suspension

Granted I have a Viper, but have tried all 3 ways. Laying it over on the tank side is the easiest way for ME to get the skid back in. As far as getting it out, gravity works amazing any of the 3 ways.

We have used a winch like Scooter. Comes off easy but man do I battle getting it back in. Must be some tricks I haven't tried yet. What are they...............besides a 6pack lol.

Yes I've done it like Scooter for the last 4 years but let me tell you as you get older it gets harder to get it back in, not so much in the track but the front of the skid onto the shaft. I just wrestled with it for half an hour and gave up, came in the house and did a search on here to see if I could lay it on its side! Thank you TY!
