I just helped my buddy service his winder and omg wasn't that fun. Who decided to put the oil tank drain there?? What a moron! The last thing we have to do is chaincase oil and this procedure looks ridiculous. Why on earth is there no drain plug?? Do we really have to tear the sled half apart and split the case just to drain the oil? Is there an easier way? And people thought an Apex oil change was a pain! I'm sticking with my Apex for quite awhile after today.

Yup totally stupid .glad I only do my viper once a year. Helped my buddy do his cat yesterday and he was in shock as well .lol

Definitely wasn't well thought out for the yearly maintenance, but making the right side belly pan removable with rivnuts makes it a lot easier. There's a few posts around here showing it.

Certainly should have been much better design. However, I loosen most of the bottom chaincase bolts a few turns, then carefully use a screwdriver as a wedge to hold the cover open slightly, letting the oil drain out. I'd like to see them make that bottom cover removable from the factory instead of riveted on.

I find it’s not that big of a deal. When doing it you really get to do an inspection. I would recommend with the high hp tunes especially. It’s only nuts and bolts.

Why cant I use my Seadoo oil evacuator and suck all of the oil out of the oil tank?
You wont get all the oil out of engine. If you look at my oil change posts in my build thread, you will see how I was able to get out ALOT more old oil when I do my changes.

Oil tank is full of baffles, you'd never get a hose to the bottom of it.

Forgot about that Mike....sucker would not get any oil out with all the baffles ect. Good call.

He's right. I tried for a half hour once not knowing about the baffles
Gave up.
Same with chain case couldn't get hose to bottom with everything in the way. Open case now and look around in there.

I believe he's talking about the chain case since the oil tank has a drain,so if we remove the reverse actuator can we use a suction hose to drain the tank?

Tried that.
Gears are in the way, but kept on trying and finally only got just a little out. Could not get hose all the way in there.
And I tried for a long time.
