worst oil consumption

396 miles and oil light came requesting 3rd quart this season . anyone got worse than this? Hopefully I get through this season then rering and ecp port job.

My sled was 150 miles from full oil tank(top of F) to the light came on.That was last season.Before the start of this season i ran 1/3 of a can of yamaha combustion chamber cleaner into the carbs while it was running,then changed the oil.I got 180 miles before the sled started to consume oil.(fuel milage was better).Because of this i ruled out the rings so it must be carbon build-up.Gave the sled another treatment last weekend so i will run it until the oil light turns on.If this fails i may give it a can of sea-foam in the fuel tank before the end of the season.

That's about right!! All 03 take oil. My mountain did about the same amount of oil burning you describe, but never got any worse. Had it reringed at 24,000, now goes 1200 between quarts.

Yeah I tried the seafoam thing,,, didnt help. Last season I got about 180 miles light to light, this season not so good. Performance doesnt seem to bad so I keep dumpin oil in til summer.

I've never had to add oil to mine did 500 plus in canada last week checked it every morning never needed any my buddies warrior same thing. Just lucky i guess

oil consumption

This oil consumption problem is a real pain. Does anyone know if the oil consumption by these sleds decreased in the later models, 04, 05? My 03 RX-1 also consumes oil, about a quart every 1000 miles. If I knew for sure the 05 piston rings were the solution, I'd install them. I'd be happy with the engine consuming 1 quart every 5000 miles but 1000, something is wrong. My 1997 ZX-11 and 2000 GSXR-1300 bikes do not consume a measureable amont of oil after 5000 miles of riding in the summer heat.

I regularly run sea-foam in the fuel of my 03 and it might use half a liter in a season. Never seemed to have the oil problem.

Im with Hammer. I do a shock treatment before each season and regularly run Sea Foam in the tank. Oil consuption minimal. At least for now

rx1jim- everything ive read and heard on this forum and others says that the oil problem was 03 and early 04 only. they have since redesigned the rings and cured the problem. Hammer I love to have that kind of usage. it really sucks having to add oil midway through a day of riding while my 2 stroke pals are blowin me smoke about burnin more oil than they do.

Try running a small amount of ring free in the oil for a short time to clean the rings .

5500 miles on my 05 and I burn little to no oil at all. Last trip we did 1250 miles in a week and It was still half way up the hash marks.
Never have used any additives (sea foam etc...) and run Amzoil in it.

NOPE.. Thats not true. All 03's dont use oil. I now have 5400 miles on mine and it has never used a drop in a season. And I bought it used 6 months old with 1900 miles so I didnt even break it in! It didnt have the hose slit done to it either. So some of us are lucky with the 2003's. And who knows why? Could it be production dates used some different parts?

Mine is Prod. date 6/03 I have no engine mods and use Mobil1 5w 30. I use Seafoam once a year or so but never did have a problem before I heard about it.

I guess Im a lucky one.

Be sure the hose slit mod is done. Run Seafoam in the gas AND oil....
