Upgrading the pontoon outboard and was quoted end of July or August on a 175 Vmax SHO. He said all the big Yamaha outboards are going to be a long wait. Demand must be really high, you'd think there would be mountains of motors in the spring that were built in the off season?

Maybe they are built on demand like the sleds, seems to be going that way. Also storage could be an issue for a huge motor like that, easier for them to have hanging on a boat then in a crate with the slight possibility someone might buy that size motor.Upgrading the pontoon outboard and was quoted end of July or August on a 175 Vmax SHO. The SHO's seem to be in short supply all the time but the regular versions are usually available. Everyone wants the SHO paintjob!

Yeah the paint is awesome! Will match the black/silver tritoon very well! The way he made it sound it didn't matter the model or size (150hp+), they are hard to get right now. So yeah built on demand or they can't keep up with demand? But either way I don't mind the wait plus the timing works out a little better for me.

Boat OEMs get what they ordered first to meet their forecast and are designed for Yamaha engine rigging durning assembly. Not many Marinas going to to have a large stock of Yamaha 150 plus hp engines for replacement market which also requires rigging for different boats. Just not a simple matter even on pontoons to hang and rig a new engine unless a direct replacement engine.

Yeah my local dealer orders boats with "loose" rigging, its in the boat, in boxes, but not installed. The customer then can choose Yam or Etec. He keeps a few 115s and 150s in stock of both.

As a marine dealer we are seeing the same issues getting 150+ engines. Keep in mind that we had a couple hurricanes last year so engines were needed down south. And boats down there have 2-3 engines on them. Still trying to dig out of that hole. Be patient, SHOs are worth the wait!
