Neat article. Is it 155 at the rear wheel or is Yammy fibbing?
Maybe the larger CC 160 hp EFI Waverunner would be better(and more likely to actual happen) for sled use.

It sounds like all of the things you all listed are items that you could easily add to your current sleds.
First off, give us an accurate speedometer.
Now, heres the sled that I want to see Yamaha build:
'06 Yamaha YSZ 800
800cc 4-stroke 10-valve twin w/ turbo
All new chassis similar to 440 IQ but with styling cues from RX/RS
136" track
Give us the suspension we need to attack the bumps - 12" front, 18" rear (Polaris did it on the Pro-XR 800, no reason why Yamaha cant do it too)
Keep it fairly light, around 500 pounds
Keep the price under $10,000
Remember, if you are going to dream, dream BIG!

I can't help myself from jumping in here! Wish list huh? Most of the stuff I have wished for has been listed but.................
I too want a boondockable Yamaha similar in design and function to a F7. I want it light but sturdy and relaible. Perhaps the 800 twin with the turbo engine mentioned earlier. Definately pipes out the bottom or back Ducati style (I keep melting the toes of my boots off when boondocking on my RX-1M).
This heavy weight snowmobile business has got to end! I LOVE the power of my RX-1M but I swear there are times I am ready to say the hell with the power and buy a Phazer Mountain lite and hop it up beacause I can really RIDE it instead of merely driving it. I guess maybe I just don't have enough weight in my arse to keep the RX-1 going where it needs to be going in the mountains. On open stuff it's ok but when it gets technical the pucker factor really sets in!
On a light and agile sled you can look like a pro when you really aren't and not feel like you were wrestling steers at the endof the day! Of course, I'd LOVE to have the power of the new R-1 motor in sled like this but realistically I think 120-140 h.p. in a lightweight sled would be plenty (man, did I say plenty?)
I really don't have too many demands:
Extroverts and a 16" track (better yet go to a 15.75" and don't pay Skidoo royalties) and they will fit better under existing sleds.
A nice long warranty is very appealing to me. To hear that Arctic Cat offered a four year warranty on the F7 absolutely blows me away! If they can do it, Yamaha certainly can.
The idea of a factory turbo with a four (three is ok) year warranty is very, very appealing.
I remember when the SRX came out. At the time a sled with 140 h.p out of the box, with servo controlled power valves and powdered metal psitons with a three year warranty was more appealing than I could stand, so I bought one. I'm affraid the same thing would happen if a factory turbo (using the R-1 or watercraft motor please) came out.
Maybe I'll get a Phazer Mountain lite for the days I feel wimpy
Enough of my bantering, frankly I'd rather read your's!

Isn't it funny how once you hang up the phone, drop a letter in the mail or post something you remember something you forgot to say?
While I'm at it (I know your listening Santa/Yamaha) I'd like bar ends that keep your hands on the grips but won't GUT you if you happen to be thrown from the sled.
Id' also like my new boondocker to have TRAILABILITY in spades! Something the F7 can't say. Perhaps an adjustable ski stance would help in this department?
Handlebars that move like the new Polaris's would be great. When my ski stance is wide for the trails Id; have them back and when I'm playing Toni Hikonin they'd be forward and for mountain riding well, I'd have to figure that one out.
2.5" track? Hum? How can you use that on trails? Do really think Yamaha would ever build a mountain specific sled? The RX-1M, the MSRX, the 700MM, the Phazer mountain lite ALL started as Flat land sleds and were adapted to mountain use. They were never a very good rendition of a mountain sled unless you bled your bank account dry to prove the nay sayers wrong. How about it Yamaha? Please throw your mountain oriented Yamaha true believers something to hang their hat upon!
While your at it; I do like the crossover sleds too. Make sure you keep them up to date and in the fray.
That's enough for now!

- Which one? I have 6
To top off my wish list, I would like to see a 800cc inline twin with turbo(160-180hp) set into a ditch banging, trail weapon, of a chassis, that is lighter than a Firecat.

since there is so much emphasis on a 'ditch' bangin sled...y doesnt yamaha come out with a 700...or a 600 4 stroke with a turbo...that would be as light as like an f7 or so...cuz i think with all of yamaha's lightweight components, they could make a smaller cc 4 stroke, add a turbo and produce a high amount of hp...a lot more than the a/c t660 turbo!!! i have heard of some guys sayin that they will make a 100 hp sled with 950cc but it cant lose that much weight..from the vector or rx1.
wish list:
700cc 3cyl 4 stroke
front mount turbo-puts out 150hp..maybe 2, or 3 different boosts, just in case u didnt want all 150hp
lightweight rails, monoshock susp-136"
oil filter relocated...maybe by disc brake???
crankcase ventilator...not into airbox
K&N air filter...with straight dual exhaust out back
electronic fuel injection
1.5" track...for some boondocking
more grip on runningboards
straps on running boards, mounted to tunnel so when u get air ur feet dont fly out
all under 450lbs
that'd make the f7 sweat
thats all that i could want on a sled...but i dont do any mountain riding, and im not a flat out drag racer either....i like ditch bangin...takin powerline runs...and hillclimbing..no not mountain climbing
i think yamaha could do this very easily, and for a reasonable price also....i think around 10k in US

Wish they would offer a Mtn sled that could compete stock....Vector Mtn turbo at around 200hp with 159"x16" track option, monoshock, adjustable ski stance, adjustable handle bar position, lighter seat, drop the battery, holder, and starter and have be pull start (-30lbs) and I think we would be there.

TRXster, yup! That sounds about right! How about this too.
An area that Yamaha has never ventured is one where they could make a bunch of money AND make most of us very happy.
How about a standard build sled with a custom option list individuals can chose from at their time of order?
Let's use a basic 06 Vector Mountain as an example. It already has a bunch of goodies on it stock BUT.......................
All Factory turbos with Yamaha Extended Service Warranty (four years)
Yamaha R-1 engine 155 h.p. stock (with turbo) 230 h.p. $3,999
Yamaha Vector engine 120 h.p. stock (with turbo)190 h.p. $2,999
Light weight chrome molly front end saving 12 lbs. $299
Tall Lightweight handlebars, suspension mounts, 8" billet rear idlers $299
2.5" x 162 x 16" track WITH extroverts (after trade for stock track) $199
Titanium spring package (clutch and suspension) $399
Extreme mountain Package including all options above minus turbo $1,000
How's that for a START!
I'm sure there a bunch more to add but that should give us a good start.
Don't forget the Supercharger option

3 cyl vector engine with EFI with small turbo.. ELECTRIC start 160hp
I wish Yamaha would do what they do best - suprise us all! The viper was the best all around sled in 2002, and that was courtesy of their engineers. The RX-1 came out when everyone was expecting an 800cc triple 2-stroke. I agree an EFI & a factory turbo or supercharger (with low compression pistons) would be great, but I would like to be pleasently surprised again!

05 spec RX1 170hp,Fuel Injected, dual injectors (low spd/high spd) with adjustability.More use of Titanium,Magnesium,Carbon Fiber, and Aircraft Quality Aluminum to replace alot of the over engineered parts, resulting in a futher reduction of 80-100 pds from the 05 dry weight. That new Mono skid with the suspension arms powder coated Blue/Chromed with Black anodized rails, front A-arms and spindles powder coated Blue/Black.Ohlins suspension through out the chassis.Slightly higher seat and handle bars from 05 specs(up and forward),keep handle bar controls clean simply and easy to adjust.Fully functional L.C.D ie;speed, temp, accel, exhst temp, oil press, rpms, fuel, oil temp,time/day,outside temp, and whatever else you can squeeze in there .Prehaps some storage, rear L.E.D's for the tailight and instead of the reflectors on the sides of the snowmobile how about a couple of L.E.D's in there as well kinda like running lights on a boat for night time cruising,I think it would be a great safety feature for riding at night,. side visibility would greatly be improved.Last but not least a more sophisticated reverse system,Anti theft device, and that (Switchbllade style key).Price in Canadian dollars$14,000 to $17,000 depending on options from Factory.
As long as we're wishing I'll take all the above in a three sled package!! :ORC
