XS 825 shakedown

Hi snowcaine

You can clearly see the fabrication date on them!

The broken one is made week#20 of 2019

The New "old one" week 46 or 48 of year 2018
Early in 2019, Timken (who had purchased Carlisle some time back) finally changed the logo and color of logo on all newly manufactured belts. Color went from red to orange.
New logo and color are as first pic.
In addition, Timken now top trims all XS belts to help prevent top wrap de-lamination. They are hesitant to publish top dimensions because of this. They fear public will not understand what effective top width means and will think XS belts are too narrow.

The reason Byam is concerned is he machined a primary clutch for more O.D. and pulled the 825 down into the secondary hub and blew the belt. So he needs a longer belt to keep it from going to far in the secondary and blowing. The 805 should have been quite a bit longer than what he is measuring.
I have used the method @justinator have posted... thanks, we learn everyday... ;)!

Xs825 at the cord 43,1/4
Xs805".......... " 43,1/2 strong
Used 8JP"..........” 42,7/8
Used 8DN".........43,3/8 strong

They really have 1/4 deference at the cord between the XS

Btw i have tried back xs825 whit my setup. No more room but it’s not touching.... My last broken belt is due to stub shaft movement (~3mm whitout touching the bolt behind)

your welcome, glad I could be of assistance and it helped solve your mystery;)!

This may be of absolutely zero help but did you try measuring the pitch length method by rolling it on the table? Gates had a video on youtube showing how to do this because they said outside circumference isnt accurate anymore with the new cog style belts due to varying cog thicknesses. Often it times it causes a belt to measure longer or shorter than what it actually is. This applies to all modern belts, not just gates.

Learn sumfin new everyday! That good 2 know!
He says it’s a good way to measure the pitch length in a non destructive way.....that leaves me to believe there’s a much more fun destructive way!
:bash:

Thanks Justinator!

Anyone having inconsistent RPM at WOT with the XS 825?

I have found the ultimax belts to run consistent on all sleds I have used one on which includes a 2016 cat, 2018 polaris and now my 2020 sidewinder. They tend to rev a little high at beginning of ride with cold clutches/cold belt but are usually pretty stable after that. If for some reason your clutching is running hot this could likely cause some inconsistencies as well if your belt happens to get very hot and then down to normal operating temp.

YES. When I was over pinching the belt in the secondary my RPM would change throughout the day.
What clutch set up do you have???

No, not since I have gone back to Dalton ramps, and have ground down the dtya-1 ramps to get my desired weight, all seems very good, they are right at 8900-9050 consistently.

which tune pete? how much weight did you take off the base weight and which set screws are you using now? I feel like im too heavy on my DTYA's with 3/4" screws and hurricane 270 tune

Brian, max16 td about 17--17.5 lbs I ground them down to 71.5 than loaded back to 73.3 grms. I think in tip 1/4" and heel 3/8" whatever is the lightest set screw is in the tip. I do have TP orange primary spring with two glide washers. And even when the temps around 40 degrees my rpms have held 8900-9050

Looks like those 2 set screws equal 2.0 grams, so you're at approx 73.5 grams. The DTYA base weight is 73.6 according to dalton website... did you ever try running them empty?

That is old info from daltons site, they weigh 74.9 empty, and I have digital scales, and that is what they are on good scales. But I believe those two screws do add up close to 2 grms.

Ahhhh that makes sense then! Thanks Pete!
