After switching over from Cat over a year ago, I am still having problems cross referencing parts for Yamaha. I am used to using brownsleisureworld.com to cross reference any Cat part. In addition to having on-line parts fiche similar to Yamaha Parts Finder, you also have the option to type in a part number and will tell you where this part is used on any machine (year model price etc), whether or not it has been superceded by another part number.

I am looking for such a site for Yammie parts, if it exists. I am looking for a drive axle for an Attak. I have found numerous axles on ebay with the same 5 digit main part number, but the first 3 letters/numbers are different. Do the first 3 designate year model or something and the next 5 is the part, or is the first 3 mean the parts are different?
tks in advance for any help.

For a Part Number in the format XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX

The first three digits are the Model Code (every model in the Yamaha Product Line has a unique model number) all parts are given a Model Code of the first model they were used on.
The middle five digits are the Basic Code number and indicate the section of the bike that the parts belong to (so 111XX means Engine, Cylinder Head).
The next two digits are the Design Code and Design Change digits (so 01 means the part has had one design change).
The last two digits are the Color Code and Size Code.

The above came from the below page... which has additional info on supercedes and such.

I'm sure parts from different model codes will fit in different machines... maybe someone on here has some info in regards to the cross reference you are looking for, if it exists. Possibly if the middle 5 numbers match along with some of the suffix, it could work???

This is more what I was looking for. Thank you. I was looking for an axle for 07 attak, found a viper axle with same main number but different prefix.
8EK-47511-00-00 for viper
8FA " " for attak
I guess the 47511 means drive axle and the first 3 are the model, where 8FA is actually RX-1. Its too bad each individual part did not have a separate number, without model prefix, so you cud see right away whether or not a particular part number would fit diffent machines.

I will just have to keep an eye out for a rx1, apex, or attack axle.
again thank you

You can use a drive axle off of any RS or RX chassis. The two stroke axles are different. I know, I tried! They are a different length. I don't know about the FX Nytro or Phazer. I ran a 2003 RX-1 mountain axle in my 07 Apex RTX.

You can look at a yamaha on line parts diagram. The drive axles from the RX and RS series all have the same part numbers.

Dealers have access to the online yamaha parts finder system, and can look up based on part number and see what machines that part will work on. Most are happy to help.
