Yamalaris build

The motor mounts are going to be a long slow process of testing and retesting to make sure offsets and clearances are good. Looking at the viper and sidewinder for the rear mount, they welded a tab right to the front cooler. I made mine of steel cause I don’t trust my welding. I used angle iron to give it some more strength. I also placed the motor as low and as far back as I could, I’m hoping to not have the top heavy feel like my nytro does.

Well looking into the price of a yamaheater on rocks website I came across this new product he has. It’s called the greaser. This would have saved me a driveshaft bearing a few years ago. What a great idea I have been replacing my bearing every 2 years now just in case. Now that makes 3 things that I will be needing off of rock. A yamaheater and hid lights and a greaser. It’s to bad our Canadian dollar is so low. Does anyone know of any used heater or hid light kits for sale in Canada. I don’t want to spend more on 3 accessories than I am going to spend on the whole sled.

I’m all done with the motor mounts and donor motor is out of sled. I also cut a access hole for getting to the drain plug and oil filter. I need to add more bolts to all my plates and mounts, but it is pretty much ready for the real motor to drop right in.

This week I have worked on my box for the back of the sled, and gas can as well. I really like these waterproof boxes that you can buy for dirt cheep. They are tough and they look good too. I had to install a few blocks on the box to shim it out so that the catches lined up with the rack. I also installed axe on the top of the box for on trail modifications. Then I put eye hooks on top so that I can tie extra stuff down.

I also found a really old gas can that fits the space well and holds 3 gallon but looked rough. So I searched up painting it and found info on dyeing plastic so I gave that a try instead. I am happy with how it turned out we will see how it holds up.

I am really enjoying this build. And if it turns out as well as I think it will. Then the next one will be amazing. More power, less weight and longer track.

This week I built a skid plate to cover up the oil access hole I cut out. And I used some rivet nuts to attach it to. I had never used these before but really like how they turned out.

Well I finally got the donor sled home. Me and a friend got it at a auction for $200 and it has 2400 km and it runs good. It’s missing a few things but it’s got the guts I need.

Only missing a “few” things haha!! Awesome. Can’t wait to see more of the build.

I got it sitting in the sled and I’m working on coolant plumbing and steering/air box planning. Before it gets bolted in its final resting spot

Ya it fits in there very well. And I love the fact that the motor is easily accessed by simply opening the hood. Unlike all the new ones.
Since I am staying fairly stock on this one, I gave the air box the hurricane treatment. I did this to my other nytro before it went turbo and it made a significant difference.

Ok so the nytro air box is going to be to big and hit the hood no matter what way I mount it so it was either k and n filters, or I thought I would try a viper air box. Since I had the k and N’s on my nytro before I turbo’d it, and I did not like them at all so I will have to make the viper air box work. Lots of fitting and testing and dreaming of how to make the steering work. :dunno:

Lots of fitting and testing to make the steering work. This is way harder than figuring out the motor mounts. But I think I am getting somewhere the viper air box has a lower top and fits under the hood way better. I also gave it the treatment to allow more air in. Man is the viper air box really heavy, I am going to weight it compared to the nytro.
