well the last drive out i lost my engine breaking on my kodiak 450. What causes that and should i fix it or leave it?

sounds like your clutch and belt need cleaning and servicing. pat just did his for the same reasons and it fixed it.

no just had 4 runs on newly cleaned and greased. could it belt slippage it only happens on a steep hill

probably belt is out of spec as you suspect.
