Its my understanding that you don't need to be concerned with the primary spring unless your weights can't control them. If no adjustment to the HH's will stop the motor from overreving, you switch to a weaker spring. If it won't rev high enough, switch to a heavier spring.
The belt squeeze is determined by the BALANCE between the force of the weights and the force of the spring. Your heavy hitters are tunable, so they control the balance.
