i have heard that you cant run amsoil or anyother syn oil due to damage to starter drive is this true.I cant understand how it could damage it.Any input would be great

Mooseman said:You can't use oil that says "energy conserving", no matter if it's synth or not. Apparently that's what causes starter damage. The starter clutch is actually in the engine oil.

API SE, SF, SG or higher but not higher grade than CD to prevent starter clutch slippage. No oil additive and also no "Energy Conserving II" or better. Those have Teflon tm and other additives which is not compatible with wet clutch starter.
