Anyone out there have any exprience working on these? I have no spark. Iam thinking its either the cdi or stator. Anyone know or push me in the right directions to figure this out. Trying to find the ohm reading on the stator, cdi, coils. Thanks for any help.

i believe there is a john deere sled forum similiar to this one. i'm not sure of the name but it can probably be searched.

Well i had spark for a moment. So i went ahead and cleaned the carbs etc. Put it back together and went a head and checked the spark again nothing. I have checked every wire and ground. And still nothing. I've checked the igniton and kill switch and they are fine. So iam guessing cdi.

Get someone to look at your headlight when you pull the cord. If the light blimps on a bit as you pull the starter, that might narrow it down that your stator is ok.

lighting should be seperate, possibly unhook connector between ignition and switch, double check, if you get couple weak sparks, then nothing, week cdi. almost everytime with sitting vintage

I unhooked the plugs eliminating the ignition switch and kill switch, still no spark. Iam thinking its the cdi.

I believe they were kawasaki motors bought out from the old invaders. boy I personally miss those times and those old invaders and deers ran great when they ran. The old invaders were on one of the charlie angels episodes but yes they had thier problems even new with stators and cdi's good luck and I wish I could help with parts but all gone now. Oh! I DO HAVE IN ONE OF MY BACK SHEDS WHAT THEY CALL A 4/6 MOTOR! 440 two spark plugs each cylinder was supposed to be good for 80hp at that time was a power house I believe coils and everything is there. (memories) sorry not much help to you.

i had 1 in 1982, man am i getting old. i remember it being a Kawasaki 440. i wish i still had it !! top notch sled in its day.

Does anybody know or can tell me how to check the stator, coils, and or cdi box to see which is bad?

check coil, primary will be less than 1 ohm, secondary probably 12k. stator will have 3 wires to cdi, being 2 coils with 1 common ground. no idea what they should be, probably 1 less than 100 and other like 200
