Hi, I wanted to share my setup for keeping the sled batteries topped off. My trailer is parked remote so I can't run 120v to it. Cost me about $100 in parts total.

How smart is that controller? Does it know about the difference between battery types (float voltage, maintenance, etc)?

Not likely very smart. It has worked well on my Yuasa AGM batteries for about 3 years now. Keeps the battery topped off between rides.

Do you tow with panel on the mast or is it removable for travel?

Remove for travel. Three bolts hold the mast on, (pipe hanger clamps) and the bent section is a satellite dish mount bracket that slips into the vertical pipe. This dish mount and turning the pipe allows you to adjust toward the sun in two axes.
