This has happened to me and a lot of the guys I ride with also. Install a new shaft and c-clips and then install a John Deere Locking Collar Part# JD8554. Slid that collar up against the C-clip and tighten the set screw. It works really well and it wont happen again.
The viper bumpers they made looked cool but were very very very flimsy and would bend by simply grabbing the bumper with your hands to pull the sled around, SMH. If they had a sidewinder bumper I would not trust it.
With the miles we put on I think your really close to 95% fixed. I think you said your injectors have been upgraded by a previous owner so maybe the gems setting from Yamaha/MPI need fine tuned a bit to compensate for the different injectors? Just a idea
