So far so good, with 2400 km on the '07. (1000 km of that in the past two months).
Can you clarify which rear wheel/bearing failed? Is this the wheel at the far rear of the track, where the track changes direction?
Someone mentioned a recall by Yamaha. Does anyone have more information...
As mentioned at the top of the post, it shifts so easily to any gear now that I'm not applying either the parking brake or the hand brake while shifting. It could not shift better.
After looking through the posts on this site, I would say that one of the most common complaints about the Viking Pro is hard shifting.
What works well for me is to shift with the machine stopped, at idle, and WITHOUT ANY APPLICATION OF EITHER BRAKE. If the parking brake is engaged, it is...
Thought I would post an update on the "new to me" Pro.
We finally had a bit more snow, so I took the snowmobile out for longer rides. I put about 450 kilometers on it in the past two weeks. That included four rides of about 95 kilometers round trip (about 60 miles for you Americans) to go...
Even with a helmet on, the VK Pro is not a quiet machine. Ear plugs cut the noise quite a bit.
Has anyone else found the noise level is enough to cause concern about hearing damage?
Back to where to hook up a winch or tow strap. That bumper at the front of the VK Pro looks quite substantial. Has anyone here used that as an attachment point for winching or towing?
The bumper is bolted to the structure/frame of the machine, although that structure/frame isn't all that...
A good and timely topic - if we ever get more snow.
Are you saying that the skis, suspension, and steering are strong enough to winch on both ski loops at the same time? Is there no concern about bending or twisting steering parts? Would you simply take a tow strap or something like that...
The Yamaha dealer does not have a belt in stock, although they say that they can get it. Here in Canada, Yamaha also wants about double the price of a Yamaha belt in the USA. Most parts at the Yamaha dealer are a real rip off here north of the border, even with our dollar at more or less par...
What works best with the VK Pro?
Choices include the stock Yamaha Belt, Dayco belts, or the Carlisle Pro or Carlisle XS.
The original Yamaha belt did not last long, and it now has a Dayco on it. The Dayco is nearly new, so I don't know how it will stand up.
I'm leaning towards the...
I've seen lifts for the rear (actually have one) - that is a quick way to partially raise the track off the concrete. I say "partially" because the track has so much movement in it that to raise it completely off the concrete, one needs to lift it once, then put a block of wood under the rear...
The machine was backing off bare, rough concrete at that point, which likely created resistance drag on the skis. That, and not having it warmed up much, possibly caused the stalling.
Driving on concrete can't be good for the skis either. However, this thing is so heavy that one can't...
We finally had a little snow - about four or five inches - and I took the Yamaha out for a ride. I only covered six or seven km, mainly on a X-country ski trail that I plan to set track on once we get more snow.
Reading posts on this site taught me not to overdo the choke, so I quickly...
I'd like to get a set of Simmons Generation 2 skis for a VK Pro. I've checked a few places here in Canada and they want anywhere from $550 to upwards of $650 for a set. At that price, I won't be buying them anytime soon.
Can anyone suggest a source that sells them, in Canada or the US, for...
Went ahead and bought an '07 VK Pro with less than 900 miles on it. The former owner hadn't used it for the past few years.
Now I'm anxious to see snow but might have to wait a while for that.
There seem to be no shortage of used VK Pros for sale. Most are from '06 or '07. Some have very low mileage. So I'm thinking of buying one of those instead of a new one.
I know that the '07 has the two speed transmission, unlike the '06. Can anyone tell me whether Yamaha made any other...
