If my riding budget wasn’t already annihilated I would have been back up there again this week putting some more miles on. Enjoy the awesome spring conditions in the North right now.
Have you tried a Hurricane search? Pretty sure Dave sold the majority of them packaged up with a can, PCV and airbox mod like the Nytro kit he used to have available. Of memory serves I think it was about a 15 hp gain on the Viper.
Managed about 3200km on the new Ape this season. Like @RAMSOMAIR mentioned, pretty late start here in Ontario. I was hoping to be up around 4000km this year.
Lots of head shaking and hand wringing going on all over the inter webs and in real life……Problem is, as long as they continue to sell out quickly with demand for more units I don’t see things changing much. The state of the Yamaha Snowmobile Division becomes more pathetic every season, it’s...
I’ve seen STM Supertips groove in a 4 stroke triple with lots of miles on them, and had Dalton QAY’s of my own start to groove in just a season and a half on a Nytro. My father just put some Thunder HH in his Vec and all he really does anymore is tour with it so we’ll see how they hold up.
Nytro was geared down two teeth on top lower than a Vec. I went up a tooth on my 136” RS Nytro, and have gone down a tooth on top with any Vec I’ve had over the years. Seems to be the sweet spot.
Twins can be just as bad, if not worse depending on the design of the crank. Old school VMax 540’s were really hard on clutches, but the Exciter 570 motor wasn’t nearly as bad. The late 90’s VMax 500’s were a little hard on roller and weight bushings as well, with the 600 motor being better...
Not 100% sure, but some wear faster than others. Likely a combo of hardness and contact area between the cam arm and the roller. In my experience narrower weights with less roller contact seem to wear faster than arms that are wider and have more contact.
Vectors have the exact same clutch as an Apex and will also groove weights and eat roller bushings if you spend extended periods of time at a constant RPM and don’t keep an eye on them. It’s the harmonics of the three banger, no getting away from it. I do agree that the previous gen Yammy clutch...
The three holers are hard on weights, period. This started with the original 973cc Three cylinder Vector/Venture motor and has been a thing ever since. If you spend a lot of time cruising at one speed this is just something you’re going to have to deal with. Roller size doesn’t seem to have an...
In all likelihood I’m going to shorten the skid up into a 137” with correct geometry with a little more aggressive track and ride on. Even with the tipped up rails the sled feels “long” in certain situations and 95% of the time I’m on groomed trails anyway. I’m REALLY interested in the rising...
Did you purchase an OE solenoid or aftermarket? Are you sure it’s the correct part? The RS sleds have a solenoid/relay that looks identical, but isn’t.
The three holers are geared WAY high out of the box. Although this typically helps with fuel mileage, it’s not great for performance. They don’t make enough HP to pull that tall a gear ratio. You’ll likely find an increase in top speed if you re-gear lower and clutch for proper shift RPM. If...
@musselman can likely help you out with some great 136” M10 info. I’ve built/tuned several 136” Mono skids and have no complaints about them for trail riding.
My 146” built Mono has tipped rails but it still feels kinda long compared to the ‘11 XTX I had. There’s something about the way the 144” tipped rail CK skid mounted in the sled and it’s geometry that make them feel shorter than they are when it comes to the way that they handle.
I’m...
I ran aggressive snow trackers on my MTX skis this season and found them to be a little much in certain conditions, but this is the first season I’ve been unstudded in a long time. Next season I’m gonna try a set of semi’s and see how it goes.
You mean 16 XTX? With that kinda’ mileage some of the front end bushings and steering linkages have likely developed some slop and need replacing. If I was buying it I’d likely go through the driveline bearings end to end as well if they haven’t been done before. Four holers are easy on...
