They were kind of lying saying they were in it for the long run.
I really think it had to do with Yamaha leaving their whole snowmobile division in the hands of Cat/Textron. When Textron told them they wouldn’t share their new chassis or build a wider version to accommodate their 3 cylinder 4...
Probably compared to the standard Ripsaw. The Ripsaw II hooks just as well as the Cobra in testing and has more top end, both sleds equal. Both our 136 Apex's running the same clutch kits and both drivers very close in weight.
I agree with Mike on a 700 twin is about as big as they should go.
I grew up with sleds in my family going back to 1970 so I was always around them. I bought my first snowmobile on my own in 1988, a brand new Phazer, I was 24 years old. At the time I wanted to gain more technical knowledge on...
Ok I was curious how it compared to those 800 triples on torque. I remember Olav stressing trying to build pipes that are not peaky and have a nice backup torque curve in relation to the HP curve. In essence to what you are saying, good bandwidth or a broad power curve.
Getting back to your...
Which is crazy, they say BRP has 80% of the PWC market. Whenever we go down to Mexico, Bahamas, etc. all they ever have to rent is Yamaha Waverunners. I asked a worker in the Bahamas, why only Yamaha? He said we have tried others and nothing lasts like a Yamaha because they have a true marine...
I agree with that.
One of my good friends who I have snowmobiled with for 25 years is one of the guys that has switched over to Side x Sides. He was a diehard Yamaha guy too, still owns a supercharged Attak. He went with the X3 Can Am turbo. Whether it’s better or worse the CA and the RZR use...
Both Kinger and Stubbs….very true!!
I am not a SxS junkie but a few friends of mine are. It sure sounds like Yamaha is not listening in that arena either as Polaris and Can Am are also owning that market.
In that case Cat wasn’t wanting to leave the market, it was a financial problem and they restructured. In this case Yamaha has made the decision to exit the market and not come back. It’s touched on in this video.
What I find strange is when the 2024 Yamaha’s were previewed I asked a Yamaha representative point blank if they were in this for the long haul and he said yes, no plans on leaving the market. That was in late March. Also an inside informant I have had for awhile who sees new product before it...
For what it’s worth I work with an engineer that left Polaris less than a year ago. Polaris had one of their test mule chassis using a 998T in it to compare to another identical chassis with their RZR turbo engine. Not sure any inner details but all he said was the Yamaha engine version...
Dam! I saw one cut in half but from a head on collision in a white out condition while riding in the UP. A father and son were going opposite directions way too fast and hit head on, they were busted up bad but survived. We had to call 911 but the father’s 1100 Turbo was literally cut in half...
Any idea on boost psi? I guess I was thinking in terms of that vs actual HP levels. I have heard the 1100 could take upwards to 50 pounds of boost pressure. I would imagine the cc’s have a factor in that equation though too?
I agree with the Doowiththeblue, if they want to race they are probably not stock.
In stock form I believe the 900 is in the mid to upper teens for boost. I wonder how much boost that motor can take without internal work?
The old 1100 Suzuki twin still seems to be king on how much boost it...
