I placed a deposit on Seth's Race sled this week. Plans right now include riding and building shocks in an attempt to produce what this could have been from the beginning, a great all around high performance trail sled. If things work well, and it won't be stepping on toes, I'll look into...
The PDS really turns the mono into an everything skid. The downside, it's not cheap... and the shock needs to be completely broken down to install it, body removed from the cylinder head, etc.
The basic chassis is essentially the same as the Apex, it just has a carb'd 3 cylinder under the hood. The 136" Proaction skid was, IMO, the best version produced, and works fairly well. Search around a little, you will find plenty of info on the various issues the Delta box chassis sleds have.
I ground the tips of the torsion springs at an angle, and then had the aluminum mounts machined so spring tip could pass through it. The bumpers help in two ways, they cause the spring tip to lift sooner (more clearance), and with proper rebound, help with bottoming.
Good to hear it was revalved. The YA 868 was, IME/IMO a little soft for the big stuff, and the YA 8681 ended up too stiff in the small stuff for many riders. I still have an RTX skid in the shop, w/ the "super special" PDS equipped 868 and 869 shocks I built. It still isn't as good as the Mono skid.
Please share some pictures of the Mono skid in the Nytro. I always thought that would be excellent in there. It can do everything very well with the proper shock mounted up.
I spent tons of time attempting to tune the RTX skid... it was a disappointment.
Yamaha implemented a variety of changes/mods to ensure belt and chain case durability. There's an aftermarket kit for the earlier AC Pro Cross sleds that essentially copies (or were they first?) what Yamaha did.
