Right on, thanks for the feedback.
I didn't notice any belt slipping, or really any difference with the 8DN other than it not blowing belts. But I ride in the mountains and am looking for torque rather than speed anyway.
About the only time I'm really getting into the throttle is when I'm...
I have a question. What will happen if you put a 8DN belt on a Viper with no modifications?
I did this on my boosted Viper after the 8JP belt came apart the last time, and there doesn't seem to be any negative effects. I have an Apex and RX1 and lots of 8DN belts around, and I have had good...
I plan on getting a reflash done before next season. I don't ever want to change one of those starters again.
Unfortunately, the nearest Yamaha dealer is in the Yukon Territory, a six hour boat ride and then 200 mile road trip away. It will certainly cost over $1,000.00 to do this trip, but I...
Mine went out last season, February of 2023. It's a 15 MTX with a turbo. But it's eight years old, so this isn't something that happened out of the box. It seemed to kick back (supposedly there's a reflash that will prevent this) when the starter magnets came apart.
When I changed the starter...
After a season with the Barn of Parts soft start spring on my boosted Viper MTX, I really like it. I haven't noticed any drop in performance in the higher RPM's, and it sure is nice to be able to engage smoothly and modulate your power at lower RPM's.
I don't know for sure about the Sidewinder, but in the Viper, I don't think there is room to fit an Apex oil filter. The Apex/RX1 filter is longer and there is limited space between the motor and the cooler. I haven't measured it, but it doesn't look like it would fit.
I don't know how long...
Sounds like what I had happen to mine early last season. I tried everything (relays, starter relay, fuses, checked tether, charged battery), and nothing. I jumped the starter relay and got nothing. I was hoping it wasn't the starter, but it was.
Huge pain to change the starter. A job I hope I...
I had a spare ignition switch and swapped that out. It continued to do the same thing. I checked my fuses (with the exception of the one on the starter relay) and none are blown. I was hoping not to have to pull the air cleaner because it's such a pain to get back on, but it looks like I will...
Right on, thank you.
I probably won't need a reply anyway. The more I think about it, the more I think I just need to switch the starter and battery cables to the opposite starter relay terminals.
When I would keep the key turned in the start position, it would continue to run, but was also...
Fireman,
I have the same problem. Starts and runs for a few seconds and shuts down, and I don't hear the fuel pump come on when I turn the key. I replaced the starter relay and then this problem occured.
When you say that you had the cables hooked up the cables wrong, does that mean that you...
I had the same problem on a 15 Viper MTX Turbo I bought at the end of last season. The engagement RPM was high and it was nearly impossible to do any technical riding since it would engage and lurch. Really hard to modulate the throttle. I only had it for about a month before they shut sled...
I'm new to the Viper and wanted to know if you can bypass the RPS microswitch in the throttle block.
I want to go to a billet throttle or maybe a finger throttle, and there's no accommodation for the microswitch in most of them. I could easily leave the red/green and green/yellow wires...
Those bent screws on the floats come that way out of the factory. I'm the first one to open up the carbs on my RX, and they were that way as well. I suspect they are that way on purpose in order to keep them from backing out.
That's what I did. It was the result of a wreck rather than a planned mod though.
Was pulling a hill and at the top it was icy. I had zero traction and I came down backwards and the sled barrel rolled to the bottom. The snow was very set up and hard and it did a lot of damage including...
I installed Kold Kutter traction screws in my track last season and I love them. It warmed up last December and refroze, so everything was a sheet of ice until we got a good dump of snow in February. The traction screws made a world of difference. I didn't try any really steep, long pulls for...
I would suspect carbs. It sounds like you have done everything that I would have done, so it may well be fixed.
Make sure that your spark plugs are good and properly gaped. Also make sure that your carb boots are seated and sealed both between the carbs and the engine and the carbs and the air...
Ya know, a lot of guys that I ride with keep telling me that I should "upgrade" to a new Doo. We don't have an Arctic Cat, Polaris or Yamaha dealer within 300 miles of here, and that dealer is in Canada. Therefore just about everyone rides Ski-Doo around here.
They make the point that the...
Has anyone out there put a Arctic Cat M8 skid under an Apex Mountain? If so, what are the measurements for mounting a Cat skid? I did a few searches and couldn't find much on this.
I assume you would need to shim it. If I remember correctly, the M8 tunnel is narrower than the Apex tunnel...
