gearing down is the next best thing to horsepower. I am running a 159"x16"x2" challenger on my 07 venture mp(same format and engine as your phazer) and I don't have any trouble turning the track. it isn't a crotch rocket but it seems to go anywhere I want to.
well...we still have a month of trailering to the mountains around Whitehorse and we will have lake ice until mid May, so I will keep riding. we use our sleds to access Paragliding sites early in the spring. Not so good riding straight from the house as the snow is getting really soft and wet...
I think you are on the right track Bugbear, although it is too bad we have to mod these sleds so much. take pictures of what you build. how far forward do you think you will take the diaphram? some of the nytro guys are covering their cans in the same fashion. seems that enclosing the whole...
corrosion would definately be an issue. If my prototype works like I hope I was considering ordering some stainless exhaust tubing for a more permenant installation. mild steel actually looses density (read - deteriorates) fairly rapidly just from heat when wrapped with header tape, where...
What do ya say bugbear, maybe we get jobs with Yamaha designing exhausts.... I will probably wrap the pipe with header tape and maybe throw a thin aluminum or stainless wrap out side the header tape. some of the nytro guys have been sheeting in the tunnel under the exhaust, sounds like an idea...
well...I was out riding a bit today and I think the exhaust straight out the back is a big improvement in build-up of snow and ice in the tunnel. it was pretty warm so it may take next season to see how it works in colder weather. for now I am happy I went this direction. I didn't have a camera...
yea, you're right about that Krakan, the guys at the Yamaha dealership have been trying to get me to do just that. I think I would lose in the end as boost cost about 60 pounds of additional weight. I would like to put a bark buster front end on it and for sure lightening the skid would do...
Ya know Bomba, I'm not having any problems with the edges of my track or the upper wheels. I keep my sled outside - no heated space to keep it in - and I clear the tunnel and skid of ice everytime I ride. so far it's all good and the big track really makes the venture a capable sled in soft or...
Hey Bomba, had it out for about an hour with alot of short full throttle periods - no melt yet. snow seemed to keep it cool. might be different in warmer or low snow conditions. If it works I will probably use some alum sheet in the tunnel from the rear up to the can like some of the nytro guys...
here is a link to some of the stuff the Nytro guys are trying to get over the ice build-up issues - read through - one fellow closed off the tunnel completely and got to much heat build-up, worth reading to get ideas :rocks:

Hey Newfie, head on over to the Phazer general forum. there are a few of us venture lite/mp owners using that area. the venture lite/mp is a phazer platform with a wider track. I see your post is old so maybe you have already found us over there.
Hey Yukonjohn, I think the tunnels on the mp and lite are the same. If you re-track just go with a 16" track. I should extend the tunnel as the 159 sticks out a bit. I am running it without a snow flap and just haven't figured out how to fab an extention that looks ok. The Challenger 2" paddle...
venture mp exhaust
After having the pipe around since last season I finally took the time today to proto the straight out the back exhaust I have been planning. I took it out for a short little blast but not long enough to make any judgments about whether it is an improvement. the sled sounds a...
have to support mud nuts post as well. I have been safely backcountry skiing and snowboarding for 15 years. we need to know when to stay out of trouble and that only comes from education. the first decision is whether or not to ride the terrain, after that you are in the game for better or...
there is still a meter of snow outside the back door and we still have not seen thawing weather yet. another month of riding right from the house and at least two months if you want to load-up and drive for an hour. the ice won't go off the lake in front of the house until the first week in...
agree totally with your comments about the handling. I ride the venture mp and always in natural terrain, what are groomed trails??? I completely removed the sway bar on my sled and could not be happier about the improvement in handling. almost totally stopped the feeling that I was gonna roll...
nice solution ruckus, the only concern I would have is that you have a forward pointing probe hanging under the a-arm. some of the places I ride that might get hung up on stuff, particularly when the still connected side of the suspension drops in a hole or low spot. the situation I discribe...
I get your idea and have contemplated wrapping the exhaust from the header to the can to change the amount of heat in that section of the tunnel. I also thought about trying to shield that area. my concerns about closeing the exhaust in are as you mention - how does one get rid of the heat. I...
interesting comment cannondale when you see lots of posts about fellows building in tunnel exhausts and aftermarket in tunnel exhausts showing up in the market place, particularly the nitro and mountain sled crowd. I wonder what the solution is. I am going to try routing my venture mp exhaust...
