Shouldn't need to visually inspect the bearings. If there is no play in the shaft (grab it and give it a shake) and they are not making any noise when you turn it by hand, you should be able to carefully sneak into a corner of the seal with a grease needle.

I have the stock skis on it but am considering skins or wider skis. Powder wasn't that deep...only upto my knees or so. The machine doesn't seem to have any power problems in the powder, was just getting WWAAAAYYY too much snow in the airbox.
I talked with my dealer after reading this post and he informed me that there is a change up to the cam timing chain tensioner, but it is listed as an upgrade, not as a service bulletin. No recalls acording to him.
