I don't get it...Just buy a motorcycle. You can get a decent bike for $3500 all day long. If you want speed, you can get a sport bike for 5-6K that will make your sled feel like a golf cart.
Spending all that coin for something that won't even be that great on the road just isn't worth it to me.
To me change is more about marketing (fooling the customer into thinking he or she is getting something that much better) as it is about progression.
I consider real change to be something that is a significant improvement such as a new design. How often does this really happen? The rest of...
You can complain all you want about Yamaha's line up but they all have their issues.
A buddy of mine who has ridden Doo all of his life finally jumped ship. In the past few years with Doo he has dealt with a bent frame, three blown motors, and a junk drivetrain. He saw the Yamaha riders in...
I am in the process of bailing on the sport of snomobilling as well. First, I just want to point out that this is a snowmobiling board so the chances of you finding anyone here who has fully jumped ship on the sport and not regretting it are slim to none.
I have been in the sport my whole...
I am running the USI X2's on my '05 RX-1. I got them off of a friend of mine who said they were horrible and traded me straight up for my stockers (he got rid of his when he bought the X2's). Frankly I think its a matter of taste. I am a very agressive groomed trail rider.
Yes they steer...
OK so I think we are all pretty familiar with this, and I know its a problem but how much of a factor has the transfer rod adjustment been? A friend of mine snapped one, then replaced it with the newer, beefier, 2010 arm. Now the updated arm has also failed after only a few hundred miles. When I...
Hmmm...lets think about this for a second. The reality is the dual carbide concept worked well with exception of one drawback. That one drawback is that they pushed in soft conditions due to the build up of snow in between the carbides. With these skis thats impossible because there is an open...
I understand your frustration but keep it together. There is no way you can convince anyone on this site that this is the first sled to leave you stranded. Too many of us have had too many other machines, ridden with those who ride the other brands, and therefore seen the troubles they have had...
Better safe than sorry. A new track may be expensive but not as expensive as having the damaged one let go at 100mph, and whip through the tunnel taking out your heat exchangers. Then your paying for a new track, heat exchangers, and god knows what other damage it could cause. Lets just...
Personally I have always said that a sleds performance is all about how its set up. It can turn a sled into a completely different machine. I also believe most people don't put the effort into understanding what changing the set up can do for the machine, and how to set it up for their riding...
PWA, I don't think what you are saying is stupid at all. You make good points. I am just trying to remind everyone that everything comes with a compromise, whether it be price or durability. Not everyone cares about the weight of their machine. I would much rather have a durable well balanced...
My point is just because Yamahas are heavy doesn't make them bad machines. Its one of many factors that doesn't always play as in important role as some make it out to be.
Are you sure you want to say less weight is always better? What about the Ski-Doos bending frames? Why did Yamaha use a...
"One reaction I had not anticipated (but in hind sight should have) is in direct reference to calling the sled a ‘game changer’."
"From my point of view, a ‘game changer’ is based on a design or technology that first, has not been applied to the subject before (in mass production) and...
I love how those that Yamaha's don't appeal to insist they are an inferior machine and then use technical spechs like weight etc to back up their argument. In '04 my buddy had a REV and all he did was talk about how it was the perfect machine. Well good for him, frankly I hated it. It killed my...
The problem we are facing here is the spec oriented people. Have you ever heard of the Feature and Benefits concept? Its the idea that a feature in itself is nothing, and that what one should trully be focused on is the benefit. Power Steering is a feature, making the sled feel light and being...
When I bought my '05 RX-1 I was coming from an SRX. I loved my SRX because I mostly rode in northern VT due to the fact that a close friend lived there right on the trail. Out where we were, the trails were windy and mostly through open fields where you could see far ahead of you through the...
OK so the inevitable has finally occured. I have an '05 RX-1 and the front swing arm in the skid is broken. The good news is I am still under warranty. The problem is the dealer wants me to bring in the entire machine to have the problem fixed. This is an issue cause my machine is hours away. I...
One thing to consider as well, is that over time the oil becomes saturated in carbon from blow by. Basically the carbon that results from combustion works its way past the rings and after a while it accumulates in the oil, which is why it turns black. From what I have been told this Carbon is...
I believe in breaking it in hard but NO prolonged periods of open throttle/high RPMs. By breaking it in hard I mean sharply varying the throttle, allowing it to rev to 9 or 10K under load for SHORT bursts. Start by excellerating hard to say maybe 6K and let off, then 8K and so on. Do several...
Anyone use this camera? If so what do you think? It looks like the best deal for your money. The only Concern I have is the sound, I can't imagine getting good sound out of it without a microphone you can plug in and mount somewhere else.
