Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

Just watched a Gale Banks you tube where he is measuring air density in a steel box. The box at room temp no boost and then again at 188 degrees and 3.8 pounds of boost. The air density for both is the same. Therefore the power level in both cases would be the same. So my sled stops gaining air...

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

OK did all the clutch work. New rollers on the primary plus a 911 cover. Also discovered I did have some weight the arms so I took a little out of them. The 35 helix with the B/O spring at 80 and the high torque rollers. And it worked as you said it would. Yesterdays ride included everything in...

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

You know given that I am on only my second belt in 3600 miles I am afraid If I change the clutching I will blow more belts?

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

Had a great hi speed ride this weekend. Smoked my brothers Polaris 850 modded trail sled even from a dig. That had never happen before. He would always get me out of the hole. Left him from the word go.

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

Ok so have done my homework on the secondary. My parts list is new rollers prim and sec, Dalton straight 35 helix, and black and orange sec spring? I already have dalton prim arms.

So what rollers should I buy?

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

Ok, so I just read a low boost thread. A sled that had no detectable leaks runs 17psi on a 270 hp tune at sea level. no mention of a header. So my sled at16psi with header at 10k ft I think is running correctly.

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

So Hurricanes off the shelf Hi Elev tune with header would have a couple less lbs of boost at the 270hp level vs the stock header tune? I have to tell you this is the first snowmobile I have owned. So I have no clue what your telling me about the secondary. I understand the primary. I do not...

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

Two questions. Do you have a header? Do you have a boost gauge or data logging? I want to know what your boost levels were at 9800ft? As I understand it the header tune runs less boost. It snowed a lot last week did yours ever hook up? The fact that the 270 tunes runs more rpm syncs with mine...

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

The clutching is stock other than the primary arms. Yes a different track could give more grip but I do not want that. To get the clutching right I would have to change the set up by the days snow condition. It can vary quite a bit here day to day. At this point I am satisfied at 15 to 16 boost...

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

Well after mother nature pumped 60 inches of snow in a week at the Tetons the sun came out and I got a ride in and did some data logging. The snow was soft and loose. I was digging 3 to 4 inches deep into the trail any time the throttle was wide open up to 90mph. The boost would run from 14.5 up...

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

I need to data log again to see the boost # if I tag the rev limit again. That 14.5 # was a very short pull.

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

Well my experience this week was with better traction it was making more power (I assume from more boost) at tagged the rev limit for the first time ever.

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

Well the day I hit the rev limit I am sure it had more than 14.5 pounds of boost.

I have done all of that. It does not leak at present.

This brings up the effective range of a small turbo and over speeding the impeller. Their are opinions out there the hp limit of a stock turbo is 240hp. Beyond that you are just chopping up the air. Whatever hp I have at present it is plenty for the trails I ride.

Stock clutches with dalton arms. Hurrican header and above hood cold air intake, Mc Express intercooler. Hurrican hi alt header tune.

Traction Vs Boost and Clutch Set Up

Not really I like the loosey goosey of a smaller track on the trails. I am not a powder rider. I do that on skies.
