Why is that the case? sorry if that's a really noob question. Ive test run jet skis and other sleds without the airbox and its never affected how they run.

I have a 2003 RX1 that cuts out/ bogs above 4k rpm. If I put the choke on it get a bit more power but still maxes out at 5k ish. It also idles low and rough without the choke. I have cleaned the carbs two times the jets are clear. I am not running an airbox right now, the sled came without it...
