Timing chain riding up on gears

Have one doing very similar thing. Tensioner snaps and resets tension on chain as you roll over engine. Installed new tensioner but didn't correct issue. Sounds like a rod knock when running, not sure where to go next. Any advice?

How many miles on your Sidewinder?

No I have put that mileage on since I bought it new. I wish it was just this season, I have a job also. We were out to Maine and NH end of Jan for 11 days, only good snow was northern Maine at that time.

How many miles on your Sidewinder?

Well I'm at 27,000 miles so far this year on my 2017 LTX-SE and after all the necessary mods to the drive train to make it dependable it's been an enjoyable season so far. I've rode Yamahas since my first one in 1973 and have had to modify something on all of them to make them bullet proof. I'm...

    Closed Loop Feedback

I installed TD header, 3" TD SQ muffler and closed loop this year. Just got back from a saddle bag trip running powertrail 270, refueling at approx 100 miles I took 1 gal less than stock Sidewinders in our group. Header and exhaust made a big difference and the 3" exhaust didn't have the...

    High mileage thread

I haven't done a valve adjustment yet. I maybe should have on my 09 Nytro but didn't and had 31,000 miles on it. Sold it to a buddy and it has about 33,000 on it now and he hasn't done it either. If the new Winders excite me I may get a new one for next year and start over.

    High mileage thread

23,000 miles and 750 hrs, did my share of trackshaft, upper gear and bushings, along with the other Artic Cat issues. TD tuned from 4,500 miles, ran flawless, addicted to the power they can produce, no way I could ever go back. Handled like a dream, best handling and most comfortable sled I've...

How many miles on your Sidewinder?

Try burping it per slimjim. He was on our Quebec trip and we had an Artic Cat 998 with us that kept overheating so they burped it like Jim said and it didn't overheat again. You have to treat them differently but yours seems to got to hot to quick. Google bad delete for sure.

How many miles on your Sidewinder?

Believe or not, belt life has never been a problem. I have never blown one, ( knock on wood) getting up to 4,000 miles and change them just because. I don't ride like a maniac but haven't lost a race yet. Have been running TD tune since 5,000 mile mark, top tune max spool 17. Ride UP mostly but...

How many miles on your Sidewinder?

Well I just got back from a trip to Quebec we do every year and I now have 19,336 miles and 637 hrs. Will have over 20,000 by seasons end. Those talking about overheating and running hot, I did install BOP radiator kit last season and it does help a lot. Run with 5 other Sidewinders and mine did...

How many miles on your Sidewinder?

So far to date I have 17,500 not trouble free miles. I have had the usual problems with the Cat part of this sled. 3 drive axles ( finally cured), Tunnel ripped loose from heat exchanger from ice, punctured heat exchanger hose under tunnel, leaking oil tank, top gear bushing, and reverse issues...

Barn of Parts Driveshaft Saver....Bearing Lock

I tried knurling on one of my shafts but drive axle is still softer than bearing so it ate the knurling up and then went on and ate axle.

    Tunnel Dammage Due to Ice

You could if you designed it that way. I did mine from the top because an ice chunk got jammed up in top of tunnel and pushed tunnel up and took out my heatexchanger hose.I did mine from the top to tie it into front motor mount/sub frame with new rivets. Not sure from underside to design around...

    Tunnel Dammage Due to Ice

I designed it and had them made at a shop with CNC machines. I do have 15 extra I made, and will sell. I do have a shop and do some work on sleds for people who know of me. I try not to be to busy because as you can see by my mileage I like to ride and ride as much as I can. I'm in the UP of...

    Tunnel Dammage Due to Ice

Here is a plate I designed and used to strengthen my tunnel. Most of the sidewinders I run with did this also. You still have to clear your tunnel of ice in the morning. I carry a small rubber hammer which works great.
