Monker, MrSled, Thanks for the pointers. In fact I found the instructions while browsing TY. I printed and read through a couple times with parts spread out on the bench for inventory. The instructions are a big help.
The questions I posted above followed my reading through the...
I'm finaly getting to my reverse install and looked throught the parts and
have a few questions.
1. what is the torque for the 2 bolts for the plate that holds the idle gear
shaft. Since they are internal it seems important. Loctite on those?
2. Near the top of the chain case cover...
Reading the posts carefully I see a couple strong clues that the vibrations are due to a chassis/ frame resonance.
First: yamadoc wrote "Strange thing.. the motor itself has very LITTLE vibration.. but the oil tank, frame, handle bars, and seat really rock...weird "
Second: DYNAREX wrote...
yamadoc, dynarex,
Sounds like your problems are similar. Can you confirm you don't have a dead or weak cylinder. Disconnect one plug wire at a time and connect a spare plug to wire (for a spark path). RPM drop should be about the same for each. Done a compression check? All four carb...
Still working on the noise problem. I have learned some things. The predominant sound is from the engine when it reaches a resonance, either mechanical like an aluminum panel or acoustic such as a resonant cavity. It occurs at around 4800 rpm or 160cps. Of course when there is resonance...
My reverse kit is on the way. I was going to have the dealer do it but now that I've looked through the instructions, it seems pretty straight forward.
RX-Fun, O-ring cutting... Are you refering to an o-ring in the collar on the jack shaft or another? May be obvious when I get there...
No roads or ice. Snow was packed but temp. 36F so granular and soft enough to leave a track print. Maybe not much snow getting up through track holes but I ran the Vmax hard the same day and no added wear or melt. Rx1 sliders definitly melted. even a little curl up the sides and plenty on...
Thanks to all for the suggestions. Track deflection at 22 lbs is 1 3/8"
I might try bringing it up to 1" to see what effect on the noise.
I'll post results.
On the hyfax wear. I will ride a few more miles and watch. Since most wear/ melting is at the first 6" where it contacts the...
I just put the first 30 miles on and have a couple questions.
I hear a lot track sprocket noise. It is most noticable at speeds 15 to 30 mph. I think I had similar noise on my Venture 700 when it was new but it seeemd to fade away by 300 miles but I don't remember it being so intense...
