airlock

2013 Venture (Carbs 973cc not fuel injected) In my manual it says this can lead to an airlock, no-start and possible engine damage. Really? This means I always have to carry gas and top it up before heading out on the trail? Is this true- has anyone had a problem with this? Thanks
