mpi oil pump

I just got a 2009 nytro with the mpi turbo, it runs good but I'm worried about the electric oil pump for the turbo failing. If that pump fails does it pooch the seals and the turbo? and starve the turbo of oil or is it a oil return pump? any info on it would be nice. thanks.

First ride of 2016 and my 12v rear mounted turbo oil pump failed. This one does not have the rubber boot. Who else makes a pump that I can install? Can the MPI pump be re-built. This failed after sitting all summer, could this have been prevented? NAPA has a fuel pump that is similar but...
