I'm scratching my head a little with this. This thing won't start with the elec. start when it's cold, but always with the pull cord. The odd time it won't start with the elec. start when it's warm. This think has never been driven hard since new. It's really only putted around and went moose hunting. I cleaned the entire fuel system figuring it was the culpret but no change. I haven't adjusted the valves yet but is there anything else I should check. A yamaha tech told me there was a coil in the stator area to help with starting on elec. start. Personally I think he's on something but is that possible? Any idea's would be appreciated.

check that the neutral wire is still on securely and next time try crossing the starter solenoid terminals.

my uncles falls off once in awhile and the only reason i noticed it was there was a clean spot where it is usually coverd in mud.

My appoligies the starter button will roll the motor but it just won't fire. The neutral switch is working o.k. Thanks anyway. My bad terminoligy

i will check my service manual when i get home and see if i can see what is doing it. almost sounds like a dirty ground.

well i checked and all it is saying is to crank it with the plug out and check for spark. then it went on to say you had to check for rub throughs and bad joints in the wiring harness.
