2005 Nytro
I just picked up an 05 Nytro with almost 10k miles and a 06 Rage with 4k miles...for $4k. I'm beginning to feel I got ripped off.
I find the Nytro's rear end dead and not rebounding at all (I have no idea how I missed this) and both headlight cowels to windshield have broken bosses and are missing back covers and bolts/nuts. One I knew of the other may have occurred during the drive home. I'm surprised the windshield stayed on.
What I really need help with is the rear suspension. I'm new to sleds but not motorsports. I see a standard shock, some sort of pressurized cylinder along with two significant near the back that appear to be primary.
With the rear end dead, seemingly not binding up, where do I start?

2x on shock rebuild, fixes it or not best to know the shocks work and aren't just for looks. While they're out check the torsion springs. They should be a bit difficult to get them out of their holders. If you raise the back of the sled so the skid and track are in the air and the springs are easy to flex, broken, or sort of free wheel replace them. Sleds aren't like mx bikes, they sort of float in the travel some. You can always yank up and the tail goes up and stays high until you sit on it then it compresses about a 1/3, jump a little and it should compress but come back to that 1/3 spot or fairly close.

Thank you both.
And thank you for the added info. I'm new enough to sleds, I did not know the rear suspension intentionally "floats" and being able to pull it up some is normal.
And those large springs I didn't know what to call are torsion springs. Roger that.
The Rage I bought is normal then and it got all new fluids as of today, even brake. Next is inspection of the clutch or primary/secondary sheaves. (I really need to learn the lingo)
The Nytro, I'm pulling the whole slide/rail assembly out as soon and we'll see what's going on.

The issue with the headlight bezels is a common one. Kimpex sells replacements at less cost than OEM, but still pricey. You can get by without the added support for the windshield, or maybe fab up some kind of repair, is Sugru.
Yes, your shocks may be in a need of rebuild, but lube up everything in the suspension to free up any binding. Check shock settings, as well as your torsion spring settings. Read up through your owners manuals and familiarize yourself with your sleds and suspensions. If you don't have the owners manuals, you can find them on the Yamaha website. Btw, the Nytro didn't come out until 2006, so you might have a 2005 Vector that the owner modded into a Nytro, ie. taller seat, fire graphics, etc.

If you pull the skid (which makes doing shocks soooo simple) then be prepared to replace the plastic slides (hyfaxes), remove the wheels and inspect the bearings for either greasing or replacement, check all the bushing tolerances (not too sloppy), grease all the bushings with low temp grease, check the straps in the front for wear, replace if sketchy. A little pm now saves a lot of swearing on the trail later
