So I've read all the stuff on here about exhaust doughnuts, cracked flex pipes and cracked Y-pipes and etc. The sled has 5700 miles on it. I had the backfiring issue a while back but that turned out to be TORS so I never looked into the exhaust. I'm about to sell the sled to my riding buddy and I don't want to do him wrong, so out of curiosity I started it yesterday and blocked the exhaust with rags...it didn't stall. I wasn't able to hear the leak but obviously its there.

I have limited time and wanted to take advantage of Thanksgiving weekend to resolve anything prior to selling it. I want to make sure I have what I need on hand in hopes the work can be completed that weekend. Specifically for those of you with experience with an 05, what am I likely to find? My thought currently it to use the Fix Kit from F/X Garage Works which replaces the flex pipes and eliminates the doughnuts...Not a fun job but it is what it is. And if I'm hoping to do the work when I mentioned, I need to order asap. I expect to find the doughnuts trashed, but what is the probability of finding a cracked Y-pipe? Obviously the concern with the 05 is the titanium pipe and the cost. Can those be repaired? If I have to purchase one (or heaven forbid two) I've seen reference to using a SS one for an 03-04 to keep costs down. Those have heat shields, but is there anything else different about them?

I realize this is all over-thinking it and I really won't know what the situation is until I get into it. One option is to do nothing but I don't want to miss the opportunity to prevent a really expensive repair later.

the complete 03-04 rx exh bolts right up. when i had my 05 rx war, i let it go too long (6000+ mi) and needed the y pipes as it cracked under the clamp where the dounut sits. i just put on the stock 03 ones without the sheilds (as they always fall off anyways) with copper dounts and a light filing to make sure the clamps are tight. i was able to reuse the stock muffler until it broke because the bulkhead rivits came loose on it on my brother. replaced it with stock 03 muffler and had no trouble since.

if you want to be paranoid, get the dounuts, clamps and a set of y pipes as the flex joints usually do not fail at that low milage.

should be able to contact travis @ barn of parts and get the pipes and dounuts. not sure if he would have any good used clamps.

Thanks maim...I went ahead and ordered the Braided Flex Pipe kit from F/X Garage Works and also copper doughnuts. If I find that nothing cracked then I'll just replace the doughnuts. If the flex pipe or Y pipe cracked I'll use the kit, since you need to cut off some of the Y pipe anyway to use the kit. If I don't use the kit I'll save it for my '14 Nytro XTX which inevitably will have the same issue at some point.

the nitro pipes are different diameter than the rx pipes, so the garage works kit might not work on it.

According to their product info as well as an email to Kevin, they are both 1-3/8" and interchangeable. At this point I sure hope so since the parts are in transit.
