After a ride, the exhaust note is getting to me. I like the sound of it, but it's loud and drones in the helmet. I'm just wondering if this was quieter back when new than it is now? Have just short of 6,000 miles. Can anyone confirm this? Maybe a new muffler would quiet it down, or is there an aftermarket muffler that may be a bit quieter?
The dreaded Apex exhaust drone. Never goes away.
You can change the droning sound abit will the Excell full exhaust system. It won't be quieter but does have a nicer sound.
Another way to get rid of the drone is to pump some tunes into your helmet.

You may have an exhaust leak at the donuts or a cracked Y pipe. Search the posts here on TY. Most start at about 4,000 miles, some sooner if driven harder.

I know the exhaust donuts have been changed once before, but I'm coming up on 6000 miles now. Something else i'll have to add to the list for the off season. The list is growing..........

They drone when new at slower trail speeds. New muffler not likely to help.
3 solutions:
Good Ear plugs.
Add Music
Drive a little faster , or slower.
Should not need donuts twice in 6,000 miles.

6000 is abought when you could start to have problems with the stock silencer as well check real close where it goes from 2 into 1 they like to crack there. may be a tad on the early side but if rode hard then it could be. stock exhaust should not be discribed as loud at all.
